Well thats my yearly jolly over
A week is not long enough so I am going to have to do some serious hubby arm twisting to ensure longer next year.
We stayed at the Sezgin apartments again. Had the Pool to ourselves all week! The resort seemed a bit quieter though there were significantly more British voices to be heard which I was told was because of a lot more British tourists staying at the Ottoman Residence.
As the exchange rate was so good prices actually seemed lower than last year and we only spent £280 in total for the week! Still loved the Sikadam and the Golden Roof but we LOVED the new restaurant The KAZAN.Its run by a turkish/english couple. The food was excellent and was probably why it was the only place that was busy every night. We ate there 3 nights out of 7 (and had breakfast and several lunches there too) It also was the only place that I found that sold local wine by the litre or half litre (half a litre was 7 ytl) whereas a bottle of Doluca was 25ytl or a glass 5ytl everywhere else. I have a feeling it was "less alcoholic" than the bottled stuff as I managed to polish off a margarita, a large baileys and half a litre of wine yet felt no ill effects still it tasted ok to me. The weather was hot but the normally gentle breeze was a bit OTT this time and for the last 4 days we gave up on the beach after lunch as you felt like you were being blown away so we retreated to our private pool at the Sezgin.
A couple of new shops have appeared and an open air cinema is in the process of being built. I was fortunate enough to meet up with some folks that I have met on other forums (who live there) and it was nice to put faces to names.
So thats it.. back to work next week. guess i'll just have to start planning for next yearRoll on 2007
so we can sit on the balcony at night with a few wines.
Is there enough to keep you occupied, are there plenty of places to eat.?
I know it is not a big touristy place but I do like a nice Turkish atmosphere
and a chat over a nice meal.
I have heard it is mostly a German resort?
Any info would be well received, many thanks Joan
I would disagree that it is a German Resort, we probably only heard 2 or 3 groups of germans. It is predominantly a Turkish resort though the British element is increasing. The only place to stay (that I can think of) that is right on the beach is the hotel Magician The Yucelen hotel, is also on the beach but the accomodation is set further back so not sure is you would have a sea view. Other places close to the beach but not actually on it are The Erdem Hotel and apartments, the Yasemine apartments and the Sezgin Apartments all about 50m from the sea We could just see the sea from our apartment at the Sezgin but it is mainly obscured by other buildings are it is up a side road at right angle to the sea front. still nice though
Restaurant wise I think there must be around 6 at the beach front and a further 6 in the bottom part of the village back from the beach At the top part of the village there are further restaurants but I'm not sure how many maybe 4 or 5.
Lots of little stalls open at night by the beach and there are a few shops but not many.
There are several trips you can do. Boat trip, river trip etc. If you want it relaxed and not bar based its a lovely small resort with a real Turkish feel
Have a look at
http://www.turkuazguide.com for the accomodation I mentioned. We met another couple staying at the Sezgin who had booked through Serdar at turkuazguide and they had found him ok to deal with. I have normally booked with Erhan at http://www.mepartours.com and he is good too. If you want a package rather than DIY your best bet is Anatolian Sky and the Ottoman Residance but that is not on the beach
Also interesting sites are

and

If theres anything else you would like to know fire away and I will see if I can answer
Thankyou Fionay, will check the sites out, sounds really nice

Joan,
Good luck in your accomodation search and I hope you enjoy Akyaka if you decide to go
Glad you had a good time. We are going on the 10th July and staying at the Sezgin. Will try the new restaurant, thanks for the tip.

Say hello to Savas (savash) at the Sezgin for us
Yes we will probably meet, it is such a small place. We are hiring a car this time, does anyone know any out of the way places that are good to visit?
