Hi Lesley,
We too have just returned having spent a week at the Riu Adeje. We have been there before and like this time found the place to be excellent.
Our apartment beside the pool area was very clean and well equiped so i was very surprised to hear of your poor room.
As we are looking to book up for next year already what rooms do we need to stay clear of ?

Our first room we didn't like was a villa (which we were 'upgraded to' as they had no apartments!)...it was near the pool but on a lower level. You passed the fountain and went along the path on the left and then downstairs. It was very dull and dingy and didn't have paving (like all the villas the table and chairs were on the grass). I don't like being on grass, so wouldn't have sat there. The next one was on the other side of the pool, an upper floor, but again very dull etc, and I didn't like the lack of patio/balcony, so nowhere outside for me to sit.

Then they put us up the far end of the place, can you imagine where it goes into a point at the far end? This area was also completely shaded, and our room was in a state of disrepair. We had to stay there one night until another room became available. It was a long walk, was on the first floor, the lift was broken (had to take cases upstairs), the walls needed painted, the headboard was falling off, and was broken (metal section missing). Also the furniture was very plain pine, not like the pine/black metal stuff in the next room we were put in. The bathroom sealant wasn't very nice (discoloured and dirty looking). Also the lock wouldn't unlock from the inside without the use of stuff from the cultery drawer. It appeared that the door had been previously forced, and there were no other doors on this section, and it was an outer corridor. So no one would really see a break in.

The room we were moved to was 253 and was fine. Would have got sun in the morning (if there had been any!). If they had just put us in a room like that in the first place all would have been ok. Also it was hubbys birthday when we arrived and had all the room changes, so a bit annoying and unfair on him. Bit of a downer really. I wasn't too bothered about the weather in the end up as we didn't really like the look of the pool anyway.

Interesting you mention the weather was better during your time at the Bahia. We did two hotels last easter, the Bahia followed by the H10 Costa Adeje Palace. Although the weather was much the same the whole two weeks, we were certain it was sunnier at the Bahia, almost like Playa Paraiso has it's own micro climate.

I can remember standing on the beach in PDLA looking out to sea and there wasn't a cloud to be seen, but turning round to face the mountains there were heavy black clouds. Maybe the spit of land the Bahia is on projects further out to sea which keeps the resort more in the sun, but it was definitely less cloudy and therefore warmer there.

Apparently the los gigantes area gets the most sunshine, so it would follow that Playa Paraiso could be sunnier than PDLA, and perhaps less sunny than los gigantes, since it's between the two.

Not sure that it's a reason to spend the whole time at Playa Paraiso though....as much as we liked the Bahia Principe, there wasn't much else there and it was a heck of a walk!

I hope you're right about Los Gigantes Lesley!!! We're going to Puerto Santiago tomorrow and the webcam in Los Gigantes that I keep checking has shown a lot of cloud in the last few days, though today wasn't bad. The forecast for next week looks a bit dodgy, lots of cloud and rain from Wednesday onwards
I hope the forecasts are wrong as usual!
I desperately need some :sun !!!

My mum is in Los Gig at the mo and has been really cold .The weather has improved enough for costumes in the last few days and just a cardigan in the evening, but there is still a wind in the day.Hope weather is ok for you. Will be better than here anyway.

Retsina and anyone who is in the area of Puerto de Santiago should try the tapas bar called Bar Dorta. Excellent food and very pleasant owners.
