Hi Fiona

I reported on the trip on a previous post back in 2006 here http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=66790&p=655058#p655058

The trip was just as wonderful...(hope the link works)?

Enjoyed reading your report Ann, can I ask why your husband was not pleased with teeth whitening ? I am considering having it done when I am over in March.

Me too Ann!

Which dentist did you use?

Oooh don't like to really trash the dentist... :( ...But it was the one in Candolim on the front above the new supermarket, I think they all have the same company branding in that area and co-locate within the different surgeries?

His teeth were bad anyway, but he really did expect more brightness after 3 sessions and £250 later?

However I had a really good experience at the same practice, the dentist was gentle, never felt a thing and am really pleased with my veneers at a fraction of the price I would pay over here. My only concern was that the main consultant promised to do them himself, but I ended up with his assistant, which I was a bit grieved about:(

My friend had her's done in Calangute, same branded surgery and hers came up a treat!! Also a chap we met at The Highland has his done a bit further down the road towards Phoenix Park, he was over there for 2 months and had extensive work done by a female dentist, he couldn't praise her enough, but we had already booked our appointments online before going out there.

So think it is all a bit of hit and miss really, you can get the same treatment over here now at a cheaper price as some people are setting up "teeth whitening businesses" however they are not dentists, but have just been on courses. It is just a chemical/laser treatment really and does not have to be done by a qualified dentist , ( only my opinion).

I know they work as I have friends that have had it done. Maybe check out your local prices before having it done in Goa?

Also if you are there for a short time, I think they tend to rush things to get the treatment done and the money in quick, we had to pay upfront. Hubby says he wouldn't have given them a penny otherwise but that is only his experience. Maybe other members have had better ones?

Regards
Ann

I use the female dentist in Candolim next door to the bambooo bar she is very good, however I have not had my teeeth whitened for 3 years now, I had that done in Calangute Dr Sushante and payed £74 for the whole laser thing...see how they put the prices up :really

Yep..prices are up..in fact think they are on par for teeth whitening same as in the UK.

And the female dentist near the HBR has got good reports....think she maybe the best to use?

i also used this female dentist she quoted 25.00 for 2 fillingsto be drilled out and replaced with white ones( not glass type), when it came to paying she wanted 50.00 as the fillings where more extensive than she bargained for, even though i didnt have the gum numbing i paid the 50.00 as its still cheaper than uk, next day i had a coffee and hit the ceiling the pain was 12 on a scale of 10 and went back she said the tooth she had filled had a hair line crack and only fix is to remove it i said no i will sort it when back in uk as only had a day to go and didnt want a hole in my mouth at 37000 ft as pressure does strange things.
the surgery is spotless and all latest gadget chair, but i personally wish i stuck to the dentist behind the osbourne resort calangutte as she been there for years and i never had a problem, this time the only problem i had was been lazy and not going to my normal dentist in goa. after all 1 filling and a scale and clean cost me 300 rups in 2006. morill stick to what you know. i think.

Yep Stavros agree with you...I would like to know if anyone can recommend a good, reliable, honest and reasonably priced dentist?

Think that they are all "jumping on the band wagon" now and can see us all coming!

Is it the same with the opticians too?

I can highly recommend Dr Hubert Gomes in Margoa, i had 5 implants done in January at a fraction of the price here in uk. If you have any questions please ask. :)

We use the Da Silva dentists on the Baga road, just past the Infanteria.

I had 2 root canals done - I know - and the wife had her teeth whitened/re-crowned.

Can't exactly remember the cost, but it was a lot cheaper than UK.

Also great pain relief.
