Well came back last week after a very enjoyable stay in Goa, our 7th so far.
Some observations:-
Flew First Choice with upgrade again- service in my estimation had gone down would rather pay for a drink than beg for one, but the flight was comfortable, in flight entertainment excellent and no delays. On arrival at Dabolim we had our cases "rapido" and were out of the airport within 15 mins..Died of shock actually seeing "an escalator"
Highland Beach Resort:-
Never stayed here before we usually stay at The Phoenix Park, the rooms were okish when you got used to them...I missed a kettle, so bought one at a cost of £20, but worth it for us I miss my brews before bedtime after copius amounts of gin Room was cleaned most days but often they forgot the towels, beds were not as hard as I expected, however this hotel is not in my opinion as good as The Phoenix Park. We had some friends staying there too and their room was far superior to ours, we were in the block next to reception with dodgy electric sockets and a huge hike up to room 310..(kept us fit though)!
Weather:-
Glorious in the day with a nice breeze, cooler than we normally get at night, but suited us, ( I believe it went even cooler after we had left?)
Didn't do any much except laze around everyday in Claudinas shack, food and service excellent as usual, with no hassle from sellers.
Did our annual catamaran trip run by Charlie from KC's bar down the river and thoroughly enjoyed the day out as usual.
Met up with Mike Richardson and his lovely wife Carol one evening, but unfortunately due to a prior commitment couldn't make the trip up to the Quiz night at Nerul, (sorry I missed you wicked Chris and glad you had a good time).
Favourite eating places:- After 7 we always love it, The Mermaid had a superb steak, but you need to book it was packed every night. Alexandra's a lot complain about the service but we got there early and had a lovely meal.
We tried the new Noodle House, gorgeous decor and, superb food but pricey with small portions, the chef came over and chatted with us for awhile and asked our opinion , we filled in a questionnaire report. Think it is pricey because it is attached to the new hotel "the Lemon Tree?....but it was really tasty food.
The worst meal we had was at The new Italian "Roma's" there were 6 of us and all our meals were tastless and the service really bad..:(
Floyds Hut still a great favourite of ours food was wonderful and friendly staff.
We ventured into Ruffles this year, we tend to avoid a lot of the English bars but it was very quiet at night and there was plenty of entertainment going on there, great resident duo from Birmingham and had a couple of nice meals and 2 good nights.
The first week we thought was pretty lifleless at night, but it picked up the second week and would guess after visa problems have been sorted Feb/Mar will be busier.
Had our teeth done..hubby had "Laser whiteneing and was disappointed, I had 10 veneers at a fraction of the cost I would pay in the UK and am really chuffed with the results, (and it never hurt, despite 3 visits and over 6 hours in all in the chair)!
Dead lucky and had no mozzy bites..I use some stuff called "Expedition" which I order over the net, many sites sell it, it is for people who do the real jungle type trips...need a gas mask to spray it on, but now they do a roll on version. Hubby got bit a couple of times and so did my daughter so the mozzies were out in force!
Would I go back?
We said no..we feel we have done it to death now and there are other places we would like to visit...but it has it's pull and I am coming round to thinking about going again next year. ( knew I would...I really didn't want to come home).
Flight home went without a hitch, no delays and a far quicker system getting through customs...when I say far quicker it took over an hour rather than over 2 lol.
All in all good holiday and got cracking tans
glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves I've never thought of a catamaran trip- can you tell me more about it please?
I reported on the trip on a previous post back in 2006 here http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=66790&p=655058#p655058
The trip was just as wonderful...(hope the link works)?

hello ann very good report its always nice to read over what folk done on their visit to goa .....
it does Ann and I really like the sound of it
Enjoyed reading your report Ann, can I ask why your husband was not pleased with teeth whitening ? I am considering having it done when I am over in March.
Me too Ann!
His teeth were bad anyway, but he really did expect more brightness after 3 sessions and £250 later?
However I had a really good experience at the same practice, the dentist was gentle, never felt a thing and am really pleased with my veneers at a fraction of the price I would pay over here. My only concern was that the main consultant promised to do them himself, but I ended up with his assistant, which I was a bit grieved about:(
My friend had her's done in Calangute, same branded surgery and hers came up a treat!! Also a chap we met at The Highland has his done a bit further down the road towards Phoenix Park, he was over there for 2 months and had extensive work done by a female dentist, he couldn't praise her enough, but we had already booked our appointments online before going out there.
So think it is all a bit of hit and miss really, you can get the same treatment over here now at a cheaper price as some people are setting up "teeth whitening businesses" however they are not dentists, but have just been on courses. It is just a chemical/laser treatment really and does not have to be done by a qualified dentist , ( only my opinion).
I know they work as I have friends that have had it done. Maybe check out your local prices before having it done in Goa?
Also if you are there for a short time, I think they tend to rush things to get the treatment done and the money in quick, we had to pay upfront. Hubby says he wouldn't have given them a penny otherwise but that is only his experience. Maybe other members have had better ones?
Regards
Ann
I use the female dentist in Candolim next door to the bambooo bar she is very good, however I have not had my teeeth whitened for 3 years now, I had that done in Calangute Dr Sushante and payed £74 for the whole laser thing...see how they put the prices up
And the female dentist near the HBR has got good reports....think she maybe the best to use?
Ann
the surgery is spotless and all latest gadget chair, but i personally wish i stuck to the dentist behind the osbourne resort calangutte as she been there for years and i never had a problem, this time the only problem i had was been lazy and not going to my normal dentist in goa. after all 1 filling and a scale and clean cost me 300 rups in 2006. morill stick to what you know. i think.
Think that they are all "jumping on the band wagon" now and can see us all coming!
Is it the same with the opticians too?
I can highly recommend Dr Hubert Gomes in Margoa, i had 5 implants done in January at a fraction of the price here in uk. If you have any questions please ask.
i know this sounds cheeky, it it possible to see a picture of your teeth. that way we can see the work and how happy you are.
I had 2 root canals done - I know - and the wife had her teeth whitened/re-crowned.
Can't exactly remember the cost, but it was a lot cheaper than UK.
Also great pain relief.
I have sent you a pm Stavros
I used dentist in calengute hospital 250 ru to have tooth out,and very modern surgery.
Great price and I bet it didn't hurt?
i cannot recommend dr ambert pimenta highly enough...he is just fantastic, best dentist i have ever been to. i have no hesitation in recommending him, great guy
We second that Jane
