I'll add a couple of thoughts.

We actually stayed in the Navy in Icmeler a few years ago. Maybe it was because we were at the back of the hotel, but we didn't find noise to be a particular problem at night and I am quite a light sleeper.

Cruisecontrol, you recommend the Club Petunya Apartments. Is that the ones next to the Grand Aquarium? I just got back from the Grand Aquarium this morning and we were sure that some nights there was loud music coming from the Petunya after midnight. Mind you, the Grand Aquarium are fond of blasting out loud music from 10:00 am and they seem to go after midnight if there was anyone in the bar, so it wouldn't be suitable for anyone wanting peace and quiet in any form!

Cheers.

Yes when reading reviews it is surprising sometimes that two parties can go to the same hotel-apartments the same time and have totally differering views. When researching hotels etc we tend to pick out the overall trends and decide from that. :? :?

i think it all depends on the ages of the parties involved, and the amount of times they have been to the accomadation,at a younger age they only really need a bed and a shower, and who can blame them if they want to party till silly oclock(everyones young once)were as familys and older couples like it different, first time guests might see more problems than those who use the accomadation year after year , like us we use the same apartments several times a year and i cant fault it saying that i dont think anybody will as its family run and not tied to a tour company so any complaints or requests are dealt with and listened too ,the only problem i find is when the accomadation is dirty and run down, ok it might be cheap and you get what you pay for but some families are on a budget and may have saved hard for there holiday, and are stuck there ,i have had too book a terrible accomadation just to get there at 4 days notice ,the travel agents we used have pulled out using the company(you will all know who)through bad reports on their accomadation,as we asked for the company ,she could sell us the holiday but would not of offered us it if we hadnt asked her too ,

I find it difficult to rationalise widely differing reviews for the same places as well , but it's the same on every forum and website. It's a lot to do with previous experiences, expectations and in many cases tolerance. It's also the case that if just one little thing causes annoyance, some people then find fault with everything. You've got to do a lot of reading between the lines to get a good idea about a place, be it a hotel or a resort from reviews.

I'm not too sure about people wanting to hide they've had a bad experience, not on this website at least. I think there's more of a human tendency to report dissatisfaction and not get around to putting in good reviews.

As they say in these parts, "There's nowt so queer as folks!"

Yes, knowing what sort of person has written the review is essential to making a judgement based on it.

Before I booked my latest holiday I was trawling through reviews whilst assessing my options. I came across a glowing set of reports for some accommodation in Gumbet, then found some other reviews saying how terrible it was.

Reading through them again it became clear that young/single/party-all-night types thought the place was great and couples/families didn't like it. Something to do with loud music around the pool all day and a noisy bar staying open till 3:00 am caused split opinions!

Del, sorry to hear you had a disappointing holiday. I was going to ask you about Turunc, but I won't now.

Do you think that Icemeler is going the way of Marmaris?

Take care.

Love to you both, Pat

Hi Pat, we had a day or two in Turunc and liked what we saw.
the beach is only narrow but is similar to Bitez.
Enough restaurants to give a good choice for a change on evenings and everywhere is nice and clean.
Dolmus into Icmeler is 4 tlr and takes about 20 mins, water taxi is 15tlr (I think)
The only reason we are not going to try again next year is that we know in Bitez we can travel to 7-8 places by dolmus easily, Turunc is a bit more isolated, but not entirely cut off .
Definately worth a try if you like quiet relaxing holidays.

There are parts of Icmeler that are nice but in general not for us, there seems to be lots of music bars all around the centre but you can avoid them and eat quietly.
If i were to go back I would probably try and stay in the old town, even though it is a bit of a walk into the bright lights on an evening. There are some restaurants nearer the old town so you don't have to make the effort if you dont want to.
Very good dolmus service into Marmaris

Thanks, Del. Am looking for places to maybe visit early on in the year. Would still want to go back to Bitez for a month in September but may be able to slip an extra week or two in early.

For anyone who hasn't been to Turunc, I would say that the opportunities for travelling to different places are pretty good, although I don't dispute that they may be better from Bitez.
There are many very good organised boat trips, and you can also get water-taxis to Marmaris,Icmeler and in the other direction to Amos,Kumlubuk and Ciftlik, which are all lovely quiet bays, with a few bars and restaurants.
It is also relatively easy to travel to many places by dolmus via Marmaris, as it is nearby with quite a large bus station. Last year we got the 7 am dolmus from Turunc to Marmaris, then another larger bus to Datca which got us there mid-morning, where we had a great time.
I think you can have the best of both worlds based in Turunc, as quiet and laid-back as you want, or lively and busy with lots of trips out and about!

Hi

We also stayed at Blue Rainbow this year and found it very noisy as compared to a few years ago. Contrary to the music being turned down after 12, they have people standing at the corner of the road after 12 looking out for police and turn the music down when they see them. I think the bars around there must pay these people as lookouts. The hotel itself is a very nice one, lovely swimming pool. I had heard that the food was horrible though. We were only b&b so didnt sample the food. I heard enough people complaining though!!!

We were B and B also so didn't sample the food in the restaurant. But I also heard people complaining about the food but some others were well satisfied with it.
