It's technically rainy season, however very little rain falls on Bali year round so i'd stopover with no hesitation. I've been in Bali twice over December / January with no noticable problems.

But... last December and January was unusually wet and it bucketed down like you wouldn't believe. There was a lot of cyclone activity in the top end of Australia and this affected Bali and the region. You just can't pick the weather.
Bali in the wet season is generally hot with a very high humidity (forget about straight hair and looking good... it's all frizz)
We was Bali in March and it was still hot, very humid with rain and afternoon storms... we got quite used to the black sky in the afternoon. However, I do live in Australia and where we live we are in drought so the rain was a bit novel. One morning I woke up to a sound and thought 'what's that noise' ? it took me ages to realise it was RAIN :que
We normally travel to Bali in May/June for us it's a perfect time. We miss the wet season and beat the European summer season and get reasonable airfare and hotel prices.
Have a great time in Australia.
