How was the aerobus a nightmare? I am going in two weeks and had hoped to traveon the bus
Just a 'mare because it's always been very full when I've been on it. The service itself is fine, but we got a taxi from & to the airport last time, & it really is so much better, although costs more.

Can anyone tell me if there are PR's outside the restaurants in Barcelona as they would be in Tenerife etc?
Not that I noticed but we tended to avoid places like Las Ramblas, which is where if they have any I would expect them to be.
No PRs as such, but in the popular squares & Las Ramblas you can expect to be approached by an enthusiastic waiter if you stop to read a menu.
great site for getting all the answers. Thanks to all
Hi also to Puddleduck, did your hubby stand up all the way from Gerona to Bacelona?
Sorry I'm confused!

Don't know about Gerona, sorry.
Hi, We are flying into Barcelona at 21.15 on 30th Sept. We are thinking of staying somewhere along the coast. From what we have read it seems there could be problems with getting out of the airport in time for the bus. Also that the train is not running from the airport at the moment. We haven't yet booked our accommodation. Can anyone please advise the best/cheapest way to arrive at the coast at that time of night. We are hoping to spend a couple of days in Barcelona, whilst there. So a good hotel base near to the train stations is a must. I have also asked this question on the Costa brava site, but as yet no repies. Thanks for any info.
Anyone used Europcar at the airport?
can anyone suggest a hotel that is quite cheap, in Barcelona and easy to walk to the various sites, in a safe area. Also which is the cheapest way to get from Girona airport to Barcelona
Thanks
It's close to the port and Las Ramblas and although it's basic it's very clean and the staff were really friendly. There's a bar downstairs which serves really nice tapas. Just make sure you ask for a quiet room (we had one at the back) as if you are on the front it's a very busy road. We walked to lots of places such as Park Guell, Sagrada Familia etc. but there's a metro right by the hotel which is ideal for getting about.
Some reviews here - http://www.alpharooms.com/auto_hogar_in_barcelona.aspx?show=reviews
The only draw back is the Ramblas can be a bit dodgy at night, so you have to keep your wits about you, but we've never had a problem.

Hi there. Thanks for that Puddle duck. I have now booked the flight, hotel, going to buy a magnifying glass for the timetable for buses from Girona to barcelona As I am a 'lazy' traveller what i need now is a top 10 'must do' in barcelona. We are there Sunday, Monday and most of the day Tuesday. We will be staying at the Auto Hogar on Paral.Lel Parallel, Does the bus from Girona airport stop near here?
1. start off with a trip on the tourist bus to get your bearings. You can off course get off and on as you want.
2. Sagrada Familia - obviously! My tip- get there for opening and go up in the lift first( unless you want to use the stairs)
3. Casa Batila- Gaudi- designed apartment. This was my favourite. Before I went to Barca I had no idea I was in to architecture and design. It is stunning.
4. Nou camp! Even if you are not really into football and getting drafted there by OH it is interesting to see behnd the scenes. The changing rooms were positively grubby! The museum is worth a look. Don't go if you kids- the shop is a nightmare- everything at ridiculous prices and it was full of wailing of kids who were being told "no". We got an official barca top at the airport for a lot less
5.Museu D'Historia du clutat is worth a look for the Roman city remains underneath it.
6. Picasso Museum- long queues there though
7. a wander round the Gothic Quarter- we never had time to just have a stroll!
8. Park Guell- another Gaudi creation
9Stroll down the Ramblas
10La Pedrera( or Casa Mila)- get there early if you can- another place with huge queues.
It's worth getting up a bit earlier and going to a place 20 mins or so before it opens- believe me it will save you time. On a short break you need all the time you can get!
What about the 'Magic Fountain'? The light dispaly at night
Didn't you like any of my suggestions then? I did spend some time looking through my report notes. Re the fountain- we never managed to fit it in so it may well be worth a visit.
PS Love the new scary site
I don't know about buses from Gerona airport but the airbus from Barcelona airport dropped us off at Placa de Catalunya so maybe that one will too? From there you can hop on the metro and it's a couple of stops down to the hotel.
Other suggestions in addition to Fiona's are -
If you like military history take the cable car up from the port to Mount Juic (sorry not sure of spelling) - you can look around the fort and there are various museums etc up there.
The Gaudi museum is worth a look, especially the rooftop with all the chimneys it's fabulous.
If it's raining there's an aquarium at the port when you can while away a couple of hours.
One thing to note - some of the museums are closed on Mondays. We fell foul of this and missed the history museum. Ah well gives us an excuse to go back sometime!
