hi
It depends on the night because if its a BBQ night the music does tend to get loader and they have fireworks which dont tend to go in the direction they're pointed  ,also when you get to know the shack owners/workers you can ask them to put on whatever you like. Oh and finally try and get your daughter to make friends with the beach boys as they will take care of her, especially keeping the indian men away.

What is the music scene around the beach huts?

Most shacks aren't big on music and hopefully that's way it will stay.
I know i would soon scarper from a shack blaring out music mid-afternoon, even if it was my favourite. Now the nightime BBQ/Parties are a different senario, think everyone deserves to let their hair down but most people have personal ipod/mp3 so no need to inflict any genre of music on those trying to talk/relax/read or sleep on the daytime beaches.
Don't get me wrong, i love the nightime bonfires, accoustic guitars and sing-a-longs, even the trance scene of Vagator/Anjuna and when the Bhangra is bashing out at the night markets i can "get on down" with the best of them, but please, for the daytime beaches lets keep it low key.

lisa, there are a couple of beach sellers selling CD's.
When I asked if they had any heavy metal instead of trance (mainly to confuse them) they went away and came back a hour leter with a selection of Motorhead etc.
Bought a couple but had to bargain hard . these wre originals , still in cellophan and play fine at home or in the truck
They said that they had a shop in Candolim, somewhere near the chemist nut I never found it and also said that they had got the metal from the "warehouse"but I never found out where that was.
there are also a couple of proper shops selling trance/ bangra style in Mapusa market

Thanks for that del 949 i am sure others here can advise me too. :) I agree with eddie 101 about music during the day in the shacks, i like it the way it is,very peaceful and relaxing. Then at night they come alive and the atmosphere is completely different. Had to laugh at you trying to confuse the sellers and they still found what you were looking for. Nice one!

Buy CDs at Sonari or maybe its Sonaris in Panjim. They have a big selection of CDs and DVDs no pirates all original. An amazing selection of 'chill-out' (not Goa Trance) a la Buddha Bar (Chill Out Bombay, Bombay Lounge). Note that the Indian Buddha Bar series is different from the European. Much more chance of finding more unusual CDs rather than the markets around N Goa.

It's worth buying the real mass produced Cds as the quality is better and usually around 300rps (I've had problems with all those boots' at Tibetan some times I can't MP3 them without errors).

:thanks Big Neil. I want to buy a couple of Cds that really capture the Goan atmosphere but know nothing about the artists i am looking for. Anyone got favourites that i would possibly like too? Thanks.

Just listening to it Big Neil, anything by Prem Joshua transports me back to India, not sure everyone would like it though.
I have bought all my music at Kalpataru ,not sure of the spelling, on 18th June road in Panjim near Broadway Bookstore. The owner gets you comfortably seated under the fan and you can listen to your hearts content before yot buy. My Prem Joshuas cost 295rps

For anyone wanting to know more about Prem Joshua's music look here

Shiva Moon - Darbari NYC the first track is such a brilliant mix of East meets West. This ALWAYS reminds me of Goa.... I can't imagine anyone not liking it ... whenever the ethereal Indian singing comes in just takes me there!!

Hi I would suggest if you have a preference you take a copy of your favourite CD's if you give them to the shack they generally play them at least once!!!
cheers Lyn x

Rock and Reggae (or very similar name) who have the shop near to Broadway books in Panjim have opened a shop in Candolim next door to Luwandi supermarket - near to Bobs Inn - on the same side of the road but just before it when you are coming from Candolim. They have a good selection of all types of music but will order anything you want.
