Benalmádena Pueblo, such an enchanting place"¦..
We didn't intend going there on that particular day, but we walked to Arroyo de la Miel and saw the bus coming along the road and we were near the bus stop, but unfortunately it was full and the driver only let about 4 people on it.
We were left at the bus stop with a lovely couple called Ally and Brian, about the same age as my youngest son, so I made the suggestion about sharing a taxi up there, and for the four of us the grand total was €6.50"¦. just as cheap and a lot quicker than the bus.
The taxi driver took us to the plaza and we all sat down in the bar opposite the fountain and had a right old natter about ourselves, and had a few drinks, then we said goodbye, but after telling them about the forthcoming RomerÃÂÂa a few days later, we arranged to meet them and take them to Torremolinos.
The weather on that day was very humid with overcast skies, temps in the high 20's and you are high above sea level, but don't be fooled by the video, those black clouds drifted over the mountains and then dispersed, and by the time we were walking back up the hill from visiting the castle monument, the sun was burning our backs.
I wish now that we'd had a meal in one of the bars/restaurants opposite the fountain, they were doing a three course "menu of the day" for €8.50, but we'd had a full English breakfast before we left the apartment and I wasn't feeling hungry"¦..next time for sure.!
We walked to the church and opposite there is the most fabulous viewing platform, the view is stunning, but unfortunately the low cloud didn't help the clarity on my video attempt and I'm no David Bailey, I forget not to walk when filming and I always jutter when twisting around to film a wide sweep, and I've finally come to the conclusion that my camcorder has now had its day.
From there, we took the glass lift down to the lower part of the pueblo and walked down to see the Castillo Monumento Colomares, a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus, and it's a very romantic place with the ‘courtship fountain of Ferdinand and Isabella,' 'the Jewish star of David,' ‘Columbus dream' and the ‘lamp of the sailor's faith,'"¦.. I think it would make a fabulous 'back-drop' for anyone getting married in this part of Spain...... The hill took the wind out of my lungs on the way back up to the pueblo, but I'm glad we made the effort"¦.entry fee is 2 euros and €1.30 for pensioners & children.
The opening hours do alter between the seasons, so best to check the website first.

When we got back to the upper part of the pueblo, we collapsed into the first bar and both drank a full bottle of water in seconds, our clothes were stuck to our bodies with the humidity and exercise, I poured some of the water over my head.!
We had a little wander around and the few touristy shops were beginning to open after siesta time, but we came back to Arroyo on the bus because Dave had, had enough"¦
The bus ride.? Now that was another experience, I don't know if the driver was running late or not, but it was some fast white knuckle ride and I actually felt sick coming down to sea level so fast and the bus weaving around the roundabouts, and I could smell diesel, and I feel sure that if I'd have had some food in the pueblo, I might have been giving it someone back after that bus journey.
We walked back to the apartment, but stopped off in Arroyo for a drink and some tapas at ‘Taberna La Copla".
A good day"¦..A typical Andalusian white village, untouched by mass tourism and could that man play the harp.? You bet he could.!.
Enjoy the videos.
