The Cristal Park is right on the edge of the old town. It has mixed reviews but relatives of mine stayed there and they had no complaints. It's got a covered pool which might be handy in Feb.

PS. If you read between the lines of the reviews it seems the bad ones are more due a particular tour operator than the hotel itself.

Colin, don`t know if Cristal Park does H/B....thought it was A1 and part of the Amigos group.

Depending on where you draw your boundaries the Madiera Centro, the Victoria and the Benidorm Plaza are all close enough. The Avenida is certainly well positioned, low rise and of a decent standard, the rooftop pool may be a little on the small side if that is important to you. The rooms at the Queen`s are basic but adequate, good food in bar or resaurant and reasonably priced (website gives a full menu and bar price list), and it is situated at the end of Tapas Alley.

Within the Old Town, you also have the small Hotel Canfali, next to the Chapel of San Jaime. From its elevated position, some rooms have absolutely fantastic sea and resort views.

Opposite Parque de Elche (also known as Dove Park), overlooking the Poniente Beach and harbour, there are a few small family owned hotels such as the Montemar and the Colon.

And just on the edge of the Old Town, you have the popular 4* Hotel Madeira Centro, with many of its room looking directly on to the Old Town, and also the Hotel Selomar, with some of its rooms looking on to the Levante Beach.

Can anyone please post any details of the old town of Benidorm. We're looking to travel next August and prefer the Spanish feel as opposed to the lively Levante area and wondered what the old town was like. Thanks!

Thanks David. Yes we're thinking of staying at the Terralta Appts and were wondering what the old town was like ie bars, eating, shops etc. Is it traditional?Also, are there any places to eat ovelooking the sea front?

Hi Elaine ... yes, the shops, bars and restaurants are much more traditional and typically Spanish, but mostly situated within the narrow streets and lanes away from the seafront.

There are a couple of seafront restaurants (seafood) on Passeig de Colon, with indoor and outdoor seating areas and unobstructed views overlooking the port and the Poniente Beach.

There are also a few small bars/restaurants on the elevated Calle Sant Pere and although these also overlook the port and beach, some views may be partially obstructed by the palm trees in Parque De Elche which sits in between. This street has a mix of Spanish and British premises.

But the best places will be found a couple of streets back from the seafront, such as on Calle Santo Domingo (better known as Tapas Alley). We have a separate thread about it HERE.

Going further uphill towards the Chapel of San Jaime and El Balcon del Mediterraneo, again you will find a few small bars and restaurants, some with outdoor seating areas. A few of the hotel restaurants/cafes in this area have fantastic views over the resort.

Thanks David, thats brilliant and sounds just what we're looking for. We visited Benalmadena this year (first time on mainland spain) and were very impressed hence wanting to try Costa Blanca. Hi All, we have just returned from our latest holiday in Benidorm. We had a great time. We stayesd at the Gemelos 20 appartments. However we are going again in September just the two of us and although we have the hotel Rosamar booked we are thinking of changing as there is alot of building work going on in this area. We have only stayed in th old town once before and that was at the Cristal Park we always tend to stay in the new town but we would like to try the old town for a change. Does anyone have any ideas or good suggestions for hotels or good quality appartments in the old town area.

The Madeira Centro or the Avenida Hotel. I wouldn`t recommend the Avenida apartments because of internal noise and some rooms are at the back of the building with no view.

We stayed at the Avenida in May and found it to be a pretty decent hotel. Heated swimmimg pool on rooftop in winter, its pretty small though. The only other draw back was dinning room is a little on the small side and you can sometimes have to wait for a table if the hotel is full. some tables are pretty close together too. Staff very friendly, food pretty fair, and a great location. We were thinking of the Queens at one point but heard a few dodgey comments and was put off. Also we have had a couple of breakfasts there which were not very good, and the service was most unfriendly as if they were doing us a great favour by...eventually actually serving us!!

We have stayed in the Crystal Park and I personnally wouldn't reccommend it and it is nothing to do with the tour operator.
The hotel is AI not HB.
The reasons we didn't like it were as follows:
Although a good position close to the old town it is also very noisy, therefore difficult to get any sleep.
The rooms vary and there are very few that either don't face the main roads surrounding the hotel, or face looking into each other. In the rooms that look into each other you have no privacy and it is difficult to get fresh air into the room.
Many people do like the Crystal Park because of it posiion and the fact that the food in good. However if the view from your room is important to you and you like a good nights sleep, then this hotel isn't the one.
The Princesa although not in the old town (only a short walk) was a nice hotel IMO.

Can anyone recomend a good hotel in the old town within easy reach of bars and restraunts but not too noisy.
