We are going to Hurghada on November 30th. We usually take a mixture of american dollars, euro's and the good old english £ and exchange over there..can anyone tell me which is the most favourable exchange rate at the minute and we will take more of that than the others.
Many thanks.
Hi, well i guess the dollar is the best , i bought some on monday and got $2.222 to the £1,and you certainly will get a better rate for the egyptian pound if you buy over there
I read somewhere that the exchange rate for the dollar in Egypt is poor as I was thinking of taking dollars.I cant see how it can be poor as its the best its been for many years against the pound.I am still confused!.
just checked
i bought some on monday and got $2.222 to the £1
Where did you get that rate from as I can't find it even close to that, the best I can see is $2.033 to the £1

We go back in January so might buy some $ now as the rate is good.
Cheers

thanks everyone. I thought i would get $ as the rate from £ to $ is good.
Why not just take ££: they are as good as anything and there would only be one lot of commision to pay and you don't have to waste time before your holiday going to town to get it changed and any leftover spending money is ready to use as soon as you get home?
When in Egypt I usually just take cash out at ATM's with a Nationwide Debit Card, and no charges and always get a good exchange rate.
I had thought of that too but i was wanting to change some in advance purely to bung the kids some cash to not bug us!!! ( they are teenagers).
It just seems to me with the strength of the pound against the dollar, that this means you would get better value for money?
Otherwise I may open a Nationwide account.
Nationwide Flex is pretty good actually and doesn't cost you a charge on your account each month. With other banks you usually have to have around £2k going in each month and/or a monthly charge to be able to get free overseas withdrawals (subject to free ATMs in the country concerned, of course). They do take a level of fees through the rate given (obviously not the mid-rate), as you would expect, but it's usually a really decent exchange rate when you compare it to what you'd get in a travel shop or at the foreign exchange desk in a hotel. I'd thoroughly recommend them.
