Kenya 2004 (see my avatar).
Some of the members of longer standing (never "older"! ) may remember the circumstances; we were supposed to go in August, but at the end of May my daughter was involved in a hit & run which put her in hospital for some time. We managed to get the TO to re-schedule the holiday for us (to the end of October), and yet in the end, she only got clearance to fly on the Thursday - we flew out on the Saturday!
I think all of us needed that holiday, and my daughter spent so much time in the pool "doing physio" that she nearly grew fins & gills  Add to that my wife achieving her life's dream of going on safari, and it was without a doubt our best ever!

Ours was Mexico last year. It was the year we both turned 40. Birthdays have never bothered me before, but I was adamant on this one that I wanted no fuss. Since the year before had been a bad one for holidays we decided by way of celebration to have a 'special' holiday. We decided that we wouldn't watch the pennies and would stay where we wanted and do what we wanted while we were there.

Well, for us and the kids it was the best holiday ever- sipping our Mojitos waiting to be picked up to go home, hubby and myself both had tears in our eyes. How sad is that :?: :!: It truely had been a wonderful fortnight. We would love to go back, but my fear is that second time around, we would enjoy it less and in the process degrade the memories of the first trip.

I have been all over the world but the holiday that stands out is 2 weeks in Elounda Crete in June 2002.The hotel was a small 3star family run one but the company we had for those 2 weeks were the best ever.I am still in contact with many of them and we have talked of going back but unfortunately the hotel is now an AI for Polish holidaymakers.Swanage in Dorset also memorable.

Best holiday before Tom, was in the Dom Rep, AI at the Paradise Beach resort. Our room looked right onto the beach, the hotel was fantastic, we got in with some really lovelly couples one of whom got married, went on a massive jeep off road thingy up to the rain forrests and sat on the beach of an evening watching some stunning sunsets.

Best one since we had Tom was Salou for my 40th. Stayed at the Goden Playa park. The first week it rained non stop, just like what it did here over the weekend. Some mountain areas even got snow. We spent most of the first week in the hotel but made loads of friends, including a family who only live 5 miles from us, and different nationalities and joined in loads of games and activities run by the animacion team. Second week was red hot so we hit Port Aventura. Fantastic. Just goes to show you don't need the wether to have fun abroad.

Probably Argassi in Zante in 1995. !5 of us -all family, with ages ranging from 4 - 60. Possibly because all the immediate family were there, which is something we have been unable to repeat as the children have grown up.

Hi LesB I've got fond memories of Towyn as well. Stayed there about 35 years ago & I've never forgotten it. Even remember the place we stayed was called the Ponderosa!

I have two favourites.

The first was in Protoras, Cyprus. Felt like heaven. Fig Tree Bay was gorgeous (if not a little busy) but we got to know the chap who used to collect the money for the sunbeds and he would reserve two for us and the price decreased over the fortnight. We also did a mini cruise to Egypt during that holiday which was an absolutely fantastic experience. We did a jeep safari in the Troodos Mountains, we watched a lightening storm (just in one cloud which was odd) over the sea whilst sat on the balcony having a drink or two, which was amazing. An absolutely fabulous time was had :)
The second was when we discovered Menorca on our honeymoon. Stayed in Cala'n Bosch and instantly fell in love with the Island. We have visited numerous times since then. On the second week, my whole family turned up to "surprise" us so we had two holidays in one. Oh, and I didnt find the family arriving. Me and hubby had been together for a long time before we eventually got married and it made our honeymoon all the more enjoyable.

Without a doubt our holiday to China last year. It was somewhere we'd wanted to go for a long, long time and it took years to save up for. We stayed for 3 weeks, saw some amazing things, met some great people and ate lots of weird and wonderful things! The trip was rounded off in Hong Kong staying in luxury at the Peninsula hotel (including rolls royce transfer) - it was a dream come true.

It's hard to choose, India, China or Australia were all superb. But I think my RTW trip in 2002 was one of the best, Singapore, Sydney, 3weeks in New Zealand, Hawaii and California all flights in Business Class. Flat beds on some of the flights, pure luxury. New Zealand seemed like paradise, in fact we tried to emigrate there as we felt at home immediately after stepping from the plane.

It's a toss-up between a RTW trip to Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and Dubai, and a tour of the Hawaiian islands. Both were AMAZING.

Gosh, don't you just love travelling!!!!

just curious guys as to your best ever holiday destinations and why?

North Devon 27 years ago...had never been and it was an adventure exploring places like Woolacombe, Ilfracombe. Combe Martin and Exmoor....the weather was as good as any European resort and I even got tipsy on scrumpy
We didn't have two half pennies to rub together in those days.
My youngest son was conceived in Combe Martin and after 10 years of waiting I nearly called him Martin.

Best holiday abroad, Calla de Mallorca...the first place/time my second hubby had been abroad and the first place I took my baby and according to recent visitors, the place hasn't changed in all those years.

Sentimental old me

I would have to say Santorini 2004, the island as a whole just gives off this romantic vibe, it was myself and my partners first holiday together and her first holiday, so it was very special for her and very special for me to be able to do that for her.

So special in fact that i'm taking her back as a suprise for her birthday next year :D
