I've been taking children of all ages to the area west of Chania for many years. I've tried all parts of the beautiful island of Crete but the West has the best mixture of real Crete and exciting activities for all ages and tastes. Eastern Crete also has its attractions but fewer of them and less dramatic.

me and my husband have been to crete twice and both times stayed in stalis which seemed to be full of couples and families and has lovely beaches.

I would recommend Stalis. It is not to big and has a grat selection of places to eat. Try the Akti bar on the beach for lunch,The GOLDEN HEART for evening meals. The owner Yannis is a true master, his wife is always there in the evenings. Try the Italian restaurant across the road......food is great and it has the best toilets if Stalis..... Plenty of things to do for all ages of family. Have a look at the Matamy Beach Hotel Appartments (Thos Cook)........they are superb, we spent 2 weeks there last October. If you're considering Stalis, I don't think you'll find better than the Socrates apartments. A lovely family complex in a great location.

I would definitely agree with Ted and Anne, the Matany Beach is a great place!! We went there a few years ago and it was fantastic, right on the beach, clean apartments, friendly staff and in a central location, but not too noisy!! Have a great time, Stalis is brilliant!!
