would you copy your post on to the Indian Ocean forum as well? I think it is ideal for there.

Love the report Gramps - glad you enjoyed the experience and hope it spurs others to travel further and see the other side of India - It brings back great memories of our trip to Delhi and the Taj,all with Daytripper. For those that want to make the same trip but with only a two week stay in Goa I would advice to go through an organised operator like Daytripper.

Glad to hear goor reports of Day Tripper Tours as we intend to use them next year to vist Delhi and Taj Mahal.

If you have already done this trip with Day Tripper which star hotel did you chose to stay in and what was it like? Did you wish you downgraded or upgraded your hotel option?

The hotel we,ve used with Daytripper, both on this trip and on a previous trip to theTaj was theDream Inn. I,s in theKarol Bagh area which has hundreds of tourist class hotels. It's nothing special but quite adequate for a stopover If you have time in the evening, a few yards up the street is an excellent shopping area used by the locals for anything from clothing to spices The hotel only offers room servic but Daytrippers reps took us to an excellent resturant a few minutes away by car. On the Taj trip you will likely only use te hotel for sleeping so I woud'nt bother about an upgrade unles you want a bit of pampering Alan

Can't remember the name of the hotel we were in Taffy, but it was very clean with comfy beds and en suite,tea/coffee etc.. and room service. Only used the restaurant for breakfast, which was ok.Fridge in the room had water stocked in,but the caps on the bottles were all broken (filled with tap water i guess) so bought some from a store next door.
As Gramps says,it was only for 2 nights sleep over so was fine.

Sounds like you had a good time Gramps.

Just wondering whether you went to Jallianwala Bagh (sp) a few minutes walk from the temple, where three hundred Indians were shot dead by General Dyer ( or O' Dwyer) in 1926 during a peaceful protest at the British occupation.

I found this to be even more moving as you can still see the bullet shots on the well down which many people through themselves to avoid being shot.

The Golden Temple has an interesting history more recently as it was used by Sikh terrorists to hideoutin the early 80's. Many believe by taking guns and other arsenal these terrorists desecrated the holt site, and Indira Gandhi sent in the army to rid the site of these terrorists which she ultimately paid for with her life.

Yes we spent about an hour at the site of the massacre. very peacefull now and a good spot to reflect on the sins of the past. Interestingly it didnt fit in to my preconceived ideas of the place based on my recolletions of the film Ghandi, I guess the makers took a few liberties in the set. All in all, it was an added bonus to a great trip Alan
