Now that Spain has recently reported it's first case of Avian flu H5N1 and has already enforced rules on poultry farms. I think back to my recent visit to Turkey and recall seeing free roaming chickens (not in a pen) on the outskirts of Hisaronu and in Saklikent.
I have to admit at the time my wife and I were surprised to see this, especially after many people apparently decided not to visit Turkey this year after the bird flu outbreak and human deaths in the country last year.
Only one Turkish guide mentioned bird flu and just stated the human deaths last year were in the far East of Turkey and were a poor family who kept their birds indoors in the colder weather.
Surely the Turkish government have issued guidelines to all keepers of poultry, especially for highly visited tourist destinations.
Has anyone else seen unpenned free roaming poultry in resorts or near tourist attractions?
