This time next week, we'll be sitting on the beachfront in one of our favourite haunts, drinking an ice cold Efes and Turkish coffee (Not at the same time!)
We fly out next Saturday from Manchester, and I must admit I'm feeling a tad apprehensive, flying with Onur, after what we've read in the papers this week.
We flew with them this summer and we had no complaints whatsoever. Flights on time, friendly staff, and yummy olive salad - typically Turkish, but who flies and looks forward to the meal? You can't beat a M&S sandwich and a packet of salt and pepper hand cooked crisps for a snack if needed!
Back to Bitez"¦
To all you Bitez lovers, I've got a question to pose - Have any of you heard of the "Elite Cilingir" a Turkish restaurant??? We didn't discover it until the end of our holiday; it's hidden away, in the corner, behind the car park of the Istanbul/First Stop. It's supposed to do the best mezes ever, according to a google search I did. We're going to give it a try, and will let you know.
I've got a couple of old pictures, of The Manuela, when the waiters wore dickey-bows each night, and the old pool. If anyone is interested, ill post them.
I hope the wedding went well Briar; the weather was beautiful here in Chester, so hopefully it was for you!
P.S. Briar - Stick Rolo in the kennels"¦ you can take him for counselling when you return with a tan. You know you wanna go!
P.P.S. Mel - We might bump into you in May, if all goes well with our Tapu. Have you heard of Kadikalesi?
Yes loks like the Bitez trip in May is still on. How is the weather then is it chilly in the evenings do you know please.
Mel
crockergirl a tapu is the turkish for deeds, im assuming they are buying property out there
Ellie Meg yes hope you try Bitez i'm sure you would love it. I often read about your love for Olu Deniz and would love to try it one day and Akyakas on my long list too.I have to admit the first time we went to Bitez we drove through Gumbet and my heart sank because atlthough I had read it was different to chilled out Bitez I was shocked by how busy and commercialised it looked it was so noisy. Having said that you just can't believe how different two places so near together could be, worlds apart so please don't be put off.mind you fantastic for our kids and their mates to get to so easily in the evening.
I'm so pleased the day went well yesterday for you I did write wishing them happiness together on one of the other posts the other day don't know if you saw it but I was wondering if it is the same son and girlfriend that spent their most romantic hour in the swingy chair together in Bitez? (You mentioned them in the original report that got me hooked on Bitez in the first place)
Get booking now its all over,
Mel.
yes im going to fethiye in 2 weeks so will pop into olu for the day, and ive booked flights for next summer for nearly 3 weeks to go to akyaka, longest i will have stayed, we love akyaka and its so cheap there too . so maybe ill look at bitez over easter or next oct as wont be going to turkey our usual 4-6 times a year next year boo hoo, its nice to see different areas of turkey as they are so different, another place i liked thats not mentioned very much was cesme
Yes my places in Turkey to visit list is growing every day. I love the look of cavus bay and cirali too, I've been trying to sort a holiday out for my parents to either of the two or maybe Akyaka ( so they can let me know what they think!) but its hard getting the flights at the moment from Stansted. Do you know what to expect of the weather in Akyaka in October?
akyaka has a slight cool breeze that keeps it a degree or 2 cooler than say marmaris. whilst in the summer it was around 36 whilst we were there my mother lives in marmaris and she said it was around 38 at that time as we texted each other most days or she came over a few times. the weather should be lovely in oct we go to turkey every oct and have had lovely weather everytime we have been there, but gets cool at night and a jumper will be needed. this hotel was lovely we used to use their pool some days, and it was very reasonably priced, not a high star, but clean, lovely friendly people ,beautiful setting
I have told mum and dad about it and i'm going to print it off and post it to them.
The weather sounds better than I would have imagined for that time of year do you think things will be winding down that time of year or will things still be up and running ok,Mel.
Mel
the hotel link i gave you i dont think its advertised with any uk hotel companies although i might be wrong , as its mainly turkish people that stay there, but we were so impressed with it ,i asked for a brochure so i could suggest to my in laws to stay there when we stay in our apt we have there, as the gardens are lovely, its about 10-15 mins walk to the beach and about 5 mins to upper town and 10 mins to lower town

ellie - meg,
lol thats me typing too fast oops, ive changed it thanks for telling me
Don't know how much of the Bodrum peninsula you've seen"¦?
Kadikalesi is between Turgetreis and Gumusluk on the West of the peninsula.
You've probably visited Turgetreis market, its 6 km's from there. It's the best place for sunsets, with an idyllic sandy beach. It's where we're hoping to buy our house, hence my screename! (Geddit?)
The house we've fallen in love with, is set on a mountain, with unspoilt, panoramic sea views, and you can see Turgetreis harbour and the Greek Islands. The sunset takes your breath away"¦Keep your fingers crossed for us!
It's going to be nice to see our friends in Bitez. It's hard, thinking of little gifts to take them. Any ideas?
I believe the days are nice and sunny, and the evenings are cool and breezy, so taking pashmina's etc.
Oh well"¦ 5 more sleeps
I'll have a think about gift ideas but I think a magic trick would be a good idea for yalmis as I know he had lost his magic box when we were there?
There must be some kind of gadget for the bar that would cover a lot of them in one go because they do struggle in that small space something to make the job a bit easier?
don't know what though i'll have to think,
Take care, Mel.
crockergirl
Wil let you know if I hear,Mel
yes i know the magician although ive only eaten there ,we got friendly with john one of the bar men, he was lovely, i havent been inside this magician as we just sat outside in the summer, and the food wasnt great thats all i know, its location is right on the beach and john used to save us sun beds, shame this hotel isnt replying i know some of the staff didnt speak great english, maybe thats the problem. ive got a phone number of a taxi we used whilst there, he was reliable and cheap, he took us to marmaris and collected us 5 days later and to the airport etc with no problems
Oh still no reply mum and dad are going to wait until we're back now. They did have quite a good offer for Tho Ottoman residence but I was a bit worried because I read a few reports saying that there were a lot of cases of food poisoning from the hotel restuarant and also that there was a violent tummy bug lurking within the place arrrggghhh !!!!!
knowing their luck the'd pick one of the two up.
Wish it was me going I really want to see Akyaka now!, Mel
have you tried this link, the lady that runs it is called jenny, shes lovely and actually lives opposite the idyma hotel , there are quite a few private rentals on here inc mine but its booked up til next may, she might have a good price on 1 of them
It's got so confusing now. I think they will probably end up booking the package to the Ottoman residence because they seem to think its more straight forward.Personally I would rather book my own flights and room/apt but its hard to explain to them that its perfectly ok. I must admit that it was Briar that convinced me to do direct other wise I probably still would be the same as them.
I,ll let you know what they end up doing,
Thanks, Mel.
