Well we head to blackpool tomorrow for our flight to faro on thursday! Can't believe a simple question about whether the car park would be full has got so many responses - thanks to everyone that responded.

Appreciate all your help, hope the airport is as good as the locals have been on here...

dgmackenzie_uk,

Have a great holiday. The car parks are extremely busy at the moment with it being free under the ADF. There wasn't a single space available when I flew out the other week. They're in the process of building an overspill car park at the far side af the airport by Flight Academy, but I'm not sure if it's open or not as yet. Those travelling over the next week or two, it might be worth allowing an extra 10 minutes just in case you struggle finding a space. BLK is a great little airport to fly out of. I'm sure you'll enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

dgmackenzie_uk,

I was only on a day return so I parked on Morissons 2 minutes walk away, you won't get away with that for a week though! There was no way i'd have got on the main car park. There are cars parked on grass vergers on the long stay car park. I suspect they're allowing use of the short stay car park as an overspill at the moment so if you can't get a space, go in to the terminal and ask. They should have had the overspill finished months ago really, but they were still working on it last week.

Arrived back into Blackpool Airport this afternoon from Alicante. Anyone thinking of using the free parking, my advice would be either don't, or go with plenty of time to spare. When we arrived last Saturday morning, we drove all around car park 1 with no spaces to be had, we was then directed to Car Park 2 which was basically a field at the far side of the airport. Thankfully last Saturday the weather was fine for the walk back to the terminal, part of the way over rough ground. Unfortunately this afternoon it wasn't. We have flown with Jet2 out of Blackpool a couple of times a year for about the last 4 years but with Blackpools £10 passenger surcharge & Jet2's increase in check in/baggage & anything else they can think of charges, this will probably be the last time.

We fly form blackpool about 4 times a year too,i priced up for Alicante with jet2 and they are charging about £69 for two bags and £24 check in fee. With the £10 adf fee i'm afraid a lot of people will stop flying from Blackpool,i know it's free parking but i'm disabled and there is about 4 disabled parking spaces that are allways full, theres no way i would be able to walk with luggage from car park2.

Hi

Just got back yesterday after two weeks in Portugal and found Blackpool airport really good. We were lucky enough to find two spaces in car park one which probably helped! Although it was really tight getting out the car park due to tight parking.

Also we were leaving at 7:30 out to faro so checked in at the back of five so again that may have helped the car park situation.

Would use it again as compared to scottish airport flights at this time we save approx 700 punds for a group of 5.

Cheers

Hi, We are travelling from Blackpool airport at the beginning of October to Spain and after reading all the posts about the lack of parking spaces available, we are now thinking of booking into the Norbreck Castle hotel and using their stay and fly package which is £79.
I dont suppose anyone can enlighten me on whether we will be able to find a parking spot at the airport in October or is it just the same all year round.

Any info at all will be much appreciated.

linsi,

The overspill car park is in operation now so things are better. However, when I was there last friday I never saw any free spaces. We're in peak season now though, I would expect things will have eased when the kids are back in school and October is generally much quieter. I would imagine you'd be ok for parking then.

If you arrive there having travelled a fair few miles to get there and find that there are NO car parking spaces available, where are you expected to Park? Whats the current situation please, i'm flying to Alicante on 26th August and am planning to park at the Airport for 2 weeks! Do the Airport actually guarantee you a Parking Space? This is my first time from Blackpool and was really looking forward to the experience, until i heard of the parking difficulties! Many Thanks.

Taggy,

The overspill and main car parks are pretty full at the moment. I was at the airport all last weekend covering the airshow and parking spaces were hard to come by around the terminal. I think the peak is starting to subside a litle now we're part way through the school holiday rush, but it's pretty tight parking wise. You should be ok and find a spot somewhere, but just be warned that it is pretty tight. The airport don't guarantee you a parking space. Under the Airport Development Fee, they simple state free parking is available to departing passengers. Blackpool is a super little airport to fly from, but I think the free parking and lack of available space earlier this year (ie not a single place when I flew from there in June, albeit before the overspill was finished) to accomodate the demand hasn't been the most successful thing to have happened. As long as you find a space, you'll enjoy the experience. The runway is nice and smooth now at least!

Hi Daz.........Thanks very much for your reply. After i posted on here i actually sent an email to Blackpool Airport mentioning my concerns about the Parking. I asked if they "Guaranteed" a parking space. A lady replied, and she said yes they do actually Guarantee a parking space for all travellers....i thought well thats certainly what you call "nailing your colours to the mast"! She said that if i cant find a space on either car park 1 or 2, that i should go to the information desk and they will make sure i get one. So that has reassured me about that element, because although this is the first time ive flown from Blackpool, everything else ive heard about the Airport leaves me very much looking forward to using it! I will of course make sure i arrive early in case i have difficulties. Now obviously i realise you've much more experience of the airport than me, so please feel free to advise if you feel the Lady who emailed me was being a touch optomistic!! Many thanks for your help.

Taggy,

That's reassuring, but I know of a few that have been unable to park at the airport, myself included! Before the overspill was completed, I was day-tripping to the Isle of Man and there wasn't a single space available at the airport so I had to park on the local supermarket (trip report here). I wouldn't worry too much, things are certainly quieter now than when all the problems were occuring a month or so ago and the overspill fully open. I would be a little dubious about the 'guarantee'. They only state free parking is available to departing passengers and don't mention the word gaurantee anywhere. I'm sure they'll sort you out though if the problem arrises. They'll probably give you a pass for the short stay car park, unless that's full as well! The overspill carp park (2) is located behind Flight Academy. If you need to use that car park, it's about a 3 or 4 minute walk away so you might want to drop luggage off with one person at the door when you drive past the terminal and let the other park the car, especially if it's raining.

I'm travelling on my own so will have to park up and trudge over with luggage from wherever i park but i guess i'll just go with the flow now and take them at there word...i'll take a copy of the email she sent me too...just in case!! ;) Thanks again mate...you've been very helpfull!

Hi Can someone out there tell me,where you get your ticket for the free parking?I have been told you get in the terminal at check in is that correct?.
Reply
oldies,

You get the ticket from the car park when you enter the car park. You must keep the ticket with you as you'll need it on your return. To validate the ticket and open the barriers to exit the car park, you'll need to put the ticket in to the car parking machine located in the baggage reclain hall. An announcement will be made when you are waiting for baggage. If you don't validate the ticket at that point, you won't be allowed back in to backage reclaim to validate it. You get your Airport Development Fund ticket (£10, require to gain access to departures) from two machines located in departures adjacent to the check-in area.
