Has the announced closure of Pontins anything to do with possible expansion at the airport?

Hi Barnio,Most locals now think they will build houses on the pontins site. The rumour mill has now started and predict the end of Blackpool Airport.
I myself am a local and would be gutted if jet2 pull out and the airport sold for building.

Hi, I second that as another local who uses Blackpool Airport, but lets not forgat its a local who wants to build the houses

Well what can i say of our first experience of Blackpfool International Airpoirt. Blackpool has got to be the most relaxing airport i have ever travelled from in my life. No complaints about anything, the parking was fine, although we had a bit of a walk from the overspill, but it was no big deal. The ADF machines were well signposted and easy to use. Our flight to Murcia (which is also a relaxing airport) actually took off an hour late but we were told that they had taken more petrol on and hopefully we could make up some time. We did make up time, as we only landed 10 minutes late. Felt a little unsure taking off straight over the sea (dont know why cos this happens a lot abroad) but soon relaxed. Coming back into Blackpool must admit when the plane banked like it did I thought we were going to nose dive into the sea :rofl but now i know that this happens i will not be too worried in future. There were continuous announcements reminding us to validate our parking tickets, which also was easy.

Would i travel from this airport again? Most definitely.
Only trouble is, they have now stopped flying to Mahon, oh well Leeds Bradford it has to be then.

juby 5,

When I was there last week, the car parks were busy, but not full. Give it another week though once schools break up, and they'll be heaving.

Is the layout still the same with the Car Parks as this time last year Darren? I'm flying on 1st Sept for 2 weeks away, last year i went around the same time, and had to park in the field (Overspill Carpark), quite some way from the terminal. If so, its wise to allow 30 mins extra to find a space and then to walk to the terminal.

Taggy,

The car parks are the same as last year, no change. The overspill was partly busy last week too. You can see it the background of this photo.

Cheers Darren...I'm guessing thats where i'll end up parking again, so i'm making sure i arrive good and early, in fact its probably best just driving straight to the overspill area, rather than trying to hunt a place down nearer the terminal!
Just hoping for better luck this time. Last year my flight back to Blackpool got diverted mid air to Bordeaux, and a replacement was sent for us, we arrived several hours late, then when i trekked back to my car...the darn battery was flat! I had to call the AA, who sent out a local chap to get me going, by which time the place was closing, and the security chap was coming round to switch off the overspill lighting, once he saw me, he said he'd leave the light on nearest me so that the recovery chap could see me, and he would keep an eye out for me at the car park barriers in case my ticket had expired...it was past midnight by the time i left! Was glad to hit my bed that night!! :)

Just wondered if anyone has latest situation on Blackpool Airport regarding any flight delays or Parking Problems?
I'm flying to Alicante on the 10am flight this Saturday 4th December for 5 nights. I've checked the Airport website & it seems all flights ok at present, but someone said they heard of some problems at the Airport this morning on the radio, but they didn't really listen to what they were.
I'd heard there may be some severe weather perhaps to come tomorrow, so i guess checking back online then will be better.
Any thoughts on how busy the Main Car Park is liable to be this time of year? Many Thanks.

Taggy,

Operations at Blackpool are running as normal with flights pretty much on time. We've not had much snow up here and apart from people panicing about a light dusting, travel has been fine. All flights are currently on schedule. There's some snow forecast tomorrow so we'll have to see what happens but everything is fine at the moment. Have a look at Blackpool Internationals website for the latest information. I've been out in it for the last 2 days and had no problems. 'Severe' and 'extreme' are relative terms and what we've had up here isn't anywhere near that when you think what Scotland, the east and south east of the country have had. The airport isn't busy so no problems with parking either.

Hi Darren cheers for that, you've reassured me there...i'm only an hour inland from the Airport, but will allow myself a bit of extra time just in case, & i'll check their website throughout the day tomorrow, are they pretty good at keeping it updated would you know? I was just concerned with this weather front due from the West rather than what we've had so far, so it will hit Blackpool before me!

At least it looks like i'll get on the main car park then, which i'd much prefer really, particularily in inclement weather!

Taggy,

BLK's website has the latest information on it so is the best source of information. I've been sat by the runway with the website live on my phone and the aircraft have arrived as per the website (also had it on comms too!). The motorway network has been kept clear, the M65, M6 and M55 have been fine. The authorties have been working their socks off around the clock to keep things moving. Don't let what the media have been showing suggest otherwise for central and west Lancs. Blackpool has had little snow, even central and east Lancs has been fine on the main routes. It's been laughable around here at some of the pancing over the last 48 hours when in reality, we've had a few flakes! Wait until the real snow arrives, then watch the panic! The forecast is light snow tomorrow for Blackpool turning to drizzle in the evening. You should be fine.

:offtop Apologies for being off -topic but thank heavens for a bit of sanity, realism and sympathy! Where I live on the east coast of Scotland we've had in the region of 6ins/15cms fall every night with daytime flurries on top of that too since last Saturday and I don't even live in the worst affected area. I'm just back from a quick top-up shopping trip to my local Co-op and was amazed to discover just how much fresh fruit and veg they had on the shelves - someone's clearly been working hard to ensure that the supplies still got through. Of course you need to get dressed up like Nanook of the north to get there but what the heck - we're all dressed the same way whenever you venture out the door at the moment. :D

Must admit I had a chuckle when a work colleague told me all about how on Tuesday afternoon in their 'one street' village they'd organised a communal mass dig-out, clearing the banks of snow thrown up by the snowploughs across the bottoms of everyone's drives only to pull the curtains back on Wednesday morning to discover that there'd been another heavy fall, the snowploughs ahd been down the main street and everybody had another great bank of snow blocking their drives off again! I think they've decided to give up and rely on the buses given that the ploughs are doing such a good job at keeping the road clear ;)
