I saw that - not my cup of tea.
Imagine getting that as AOA??
Many thanks for your coments, much appreciated.....
Think I will give it a miss. Want to go to Mexico can anyone recommend a few hotel choices. We are a group of 4 age 46 to 55 like beach and poss all inclusive, and want to feel safe walking around at night..... not like last year in Jamaca..
We are both in our early forties and have stayed there twice - once at the Sierra (I believe this hotel has now changed its name), right in the mdidle of the hotel strip - on the beach, like most of the hotels - All Inclusive - great food, lovely people, first class accommodation and close enough to walk to Cancun centre/shopping. Other place we stayed at was Tucancun, further up the road, which was really for the younger generation, but reading earlier reports, absolutely nothing like Blue Bay/Getaway, still a lovely place. I also hear that the Caribbean Princess is now trying to become an 18/30 type hotel (so I hear) as my nephew stayed there this year - and he says lots of people his age were there at the same time (early August). If you can get into a Riu chain - you will be spoilt.
Thanks for the info Dawntra ... not sure really what to do now but will look into Riu Chain, who did you book through ?
A lot of travel agents dont advise the hotel unless its what you are into!!!!!
Just an update for people on the Caribbean Princess: it was used by Escapades this year for the first time, and the hotel management were shocked & angry at the behaviour of a small minority of Escapades guests, so much so that when we were there (August) they were making the Escapades guests sign a "behaviour contract" with a 3 strikes & you're out clause! Probably as a result of this, we didn't experience any problems, and the hotel itself, and the staff, were very good. If, as I suspect, the hotel don't renew their contract with Escapades, it is well worth a look for a good value hotel in Cancun
Whilst we were in Cancun in August, we met quite a few BBG guests on trips etc and they were all complaining about the kind of activities that do go on at this hotel. I'm not sure if any of them moved elsewhere for the rest of their stay but they were not happy bunnies. I think it just needs to be made clear that this kind of thing happens at this hotel. And none of the guests we spoke to were allocated on arrival.
I saw this on Watchdog last night. My daughter and her husband are thinking of going to Mexico next year so I will warn them. That is one of the risks of going 'Allocation on Arrival' as you never know where you may end up. If that is the sort of thing you want it would be fine but it certainly wouldn't be everyone's glass of tequilla
I would not recommend the 'getaway' for a relaxing break at all. As has been stated, the 'entertaiment' usually comprises of some morons emulating/simulating intercourse in the bar area.
we have stayed at the blue bay getaway twice, wouldn't reccommend it if you're after relaxation, however if you're after lots of fun and friendly people then this is the place to be. We love it!
Fun with a triple X rating.
we went there on our honeymoon too we really loved it
We obviously expect different things from what was described as a 'luxury hotel' then.
Has anyone recently returned from the Blue Bay Club, Cancun, Mexico.
We have been notified that hurrican Wilma caused damage, not sure how bad .......... don't want a holiday on a building site. Apparenly our flight has been change as there have been quite a few people cancelling, our flight is being merged with the Manchester flight which leaves on 29th March........
Any views on the hotel and surrounding area would be very much appreciated.
I've merged your other post with THIS TOPIC. If anyone would like to post with advice regarding hurricane damage in general, compensation, cancellation etc, please do so via that link.
Thanks.
Pippy
