I always used to research hotels a year or 2 in advance ,knew where I wanted to go and would look for the best possible price as soon as I could but things have changed and with the way prices are going we have to be on the lookout for the best current offers and check reviews then .
I never realised there were so many good A/I's about .Wasnt keeen on the Antayla coast but did like the Aegean coast and theres a lot to offer there in the way of A/Is. Things certainly have changed since holidays at the Belcekiz and sun city . So much more choice and it's actually quite bewildering .
I can't believe I'm calling 2.5 k for 2 + a free child place a bargain .
Have a wonderful time lyn's friend. Let us all know what you thought, then we can book............lol
She's just joined this morning Trifle so subject to approval I know she wants to thank you all personally.
lyn
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the pricing anymore. I always said you get what you pay for but that's not necessarily the case anymore. The hotel I haved booked for October at a bargain price is now coming out more expensive than the WOW if we went the same weeks in July! I always started looking for our next holiday as soon as the brochures came out, I don't even bother getting brochures anymore. Can't see the point when the prices vary so much on t'internet. I am with you in that I wasn't completely smitten with the Antalya side, that's not to rule it out in future but I do prefer Dalaman. Hopefully I will be saying the same about the Bodrum peninsular, did you find it as friendly as Olu? Talking of the Belcekiz, I couldn't bring myself to pay those rediculous prices this year, it's not even 24hr A.I. and the beer isn't even efes
Thank you lyn for having so much patience with me!
A BIG thank you to trifle and minione for all there useful information you gave me, without your knowledge i'd still be going round in circles.
Will let you know about hotel, anyway off to bed now,to catch up on some beauty sleep and dream of aug 9th!
You are welcome. Have a fantastic time, is it your first time to Turkey? If so, be prepared to fall in love with the place like we all have. By the way I understand completely the issue you have with carpeted rooms, I would never walk on one barefoot, yuk.
You will love the Peninsula, it is glorious, I agree Lyn and minione, Antalya is lovely, and Belek with the stunning AI hotels there, and they are some of the best we have ever stayed in, but, everything is the same...............and we can't stand to be trapped on a complex. I know there are differing views on,"well we go to just chill" etc etc, but, to just lie on a sunbed for the duration of a holiday, and not see anything on the outside "as it where" is to me, criminal....................That's why we keep away from Lara Beach, again wonderful hotels, a couple of absolute crackers that we have looked at, but they are stuck in the middle of nowhere...............So, the Peninsula for us, and of course the odd trip into Olu, Dalyan and Fethiye, oh yes bring it on. As for prices, well my goodness sometimes it is pure madness, and in a lot of cases the prices cannot be justified.........??
So, anxious Deb, enjoy everything, and I am sure we will see lots more of you on here.
Trifle.
My great friend lyn kept trying to persuade me to vislt Turkey, but i just did'nt fancy going there after hearing some bad reports on it, anyway after first visit Trifle, i had completely fell in love with it.
Went to Cyprus in 2008, but all i spoke of was how fab Turkey is!
I Also feel strongly about being stuck in a hotel, has i love walks along promenade's,to town and seeing all the sight's.
I've also got a feeling Trifle that your going to hear a lot from me on this site!

Deb you couldn't possibly become as sad as me.
did you find it as friendly as Olu
I felt the Bodrum coast was equally as stunning sharon but in a different way to the Dalaman stretch. Not that we went very far outside of the Aegean Dream resort, just into Turgetreis for a stroll every evening and the market there . The coastline looked absolutely stunning from what we saw on the transfer coach back to the airport (it was dark on the way there).
We found it as friendly but having said that I have always felt that with frequent visitors to Turkey their heart normally lies in the place they visited first .
Out of interest I priced the Salmakis for the 5 of us last night and it came out at around 6K on Debs dates but 4.8k for the dates we go on 20th July. So not cheap but I've certainly priced up a lot worse .
lyn
Must admit pictures I have seen of the Bodrum peninsular do look stunning, the views from our hotel alone look gorgeous, really can't wait.
Your friend booked just in time by the sounds of it, told you £2500 wasn't bad
minione, is it the wow you are off to? and then the Kefaluka in October? I have been to the wow, (as you will know.lol) but I am looking forward to hearing about the Kefaluka, I think it will become one for the Brits in the next year or so, another La Blanche for popularity, another one to add to the list though, so that's ok by me.
I have looked at the Mardan Palace today to check on prices for a friend.............................Yeah Right, It is ludicrous what they are charging, and the bedrooms look like they have been designed by Whiplash Lil..........................Might be someones idea of opulence, but who's? Have a look ladies and see how many pennies you would need just to have a drink at the bar.
Lyn is off to Cuba in the summer but in the meantime we can all carry on with the research and add to our lists ready for her on her return. Turkey gets under your skin and I can't wait till my next fix, carpeted rooms or not.
I believe some rooms can be as much as £700 per night............................now, ok, it is very swish, as camp as christmas, and although the surroundings are stunning, that price is a nonsense, and I know you only get what you pay for, but at £700 per night, I would want Antonio Banderos, Johnny Depp, Michael Buble and Marco Pierre' White, all doing what they do best, (apart from Antonio Banderos', he could do anything he liked) Arriba...................
I believe that 2 other companies travel there also, Mmmmmmmmmmmm, should we add it to the list then Mini???????lol
Johnny Depp!!!!!!!!!!! Just off to check how much I've got in that ISA...........
Seriously some of these places arn't really about having a holiday in Turkey they are out to rival Dubai . Oh no give me chippy chappy Turks and the Club dance around the pool any time .
lyn x
Anyway, yes Lyn, one of the reasons we research is to find something suitable for all. I wouldn't have chosen Kefaluka if youngest was coming with us but chose WOW because she and her friend are. Two completely different holidays methinks.
No worries, it's nice to have to light hearted chat to brighten the place up! Slap my wrist for going now, but I was in St Lucia staying in Rodney Bay when they were filming the 2nd and 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean films. All the boats and film crews were staying at the Sandals resort next door so we were star gazing (not the sky variety!). Half were on the lookout for Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, the rest of us Keira Knightley!
Whoa I have started something haven't I,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,??//Excuse me I spotted Mr. Depp first, so he's mine, he can be dressed as Good Old Willy Wonka,The Mad Hatter, Edward Scissor Hands in fact anything he wants, Mmmmm Mmmmm, move over Vanessa (paradis') the girls are in town. Put on your Jack Sparrow outfit and tie me to the main brace...................lol
But, Antonio Banderos, well, he could be saying "Senorita, you have a face like the back of a bus"...........as long as he said it in Spanish, I wouldn't care one bit....................Antonio Antonia Mucho Grande' Hombre' Si?
Sorry Darren, I go into the twilight zone from time to time.....................time for some more tablets.(Keira knightley, ok, you can go off into your dream world too..........)
Better than talking about the chuffin Volcano, anyday.
So take care, til next time.
