I hope he's feeling better soon, I've taken my nieces and nephews away lots of times and got separate insurance for them. I am sure last time it was from the post office.
In my experience you are able to add direct family members (under 16) to your annual policy. Give them a ring and see what they say. Mention his broken wrist - best to mention everything, then they can't get away with not paying out should something happen.
Yes the airline will require a permission to fly letter for his condition but you do need to speak with the insurers or a broker before you go. Problem could be that some insurers will exclude the existing injury. If he had been insured then you could claim against that policy and they would probably cover him anyway.

My husband and I were going on holiday on our own but as he missed out on holiday with his parents last week we thought we would take him with us if consultant gives him the go ahead today. Will phone our insurance policy to ask for insurance for him.
Both the Post Office and Direct Travel will insure under 18's on their own policy. However it won't cover anything to do with his broken wrist as that is a known event.
Won't be coming with us as he has to have another operation tomorrow and won't be fit enough to come with us,feel so sorry for him.But will take him somewhere nice as soon as he is fit enough.Thank you for the help.
Poor lad, hope he gets better soon and that he will soon enjoy a holiday.
