Takos brothers €40 for one day, comes full of fuel and you take it back the same way. Didn't ask about hiring over longer a periods as we just wanted it for one day.

our buggy in Sept 2010, read the notes !

the other bigger ones were €70 a day

Cheers Steve, saw your photo and thats what prompted the post ;)

We couldnt remember what they were asking last year, we are staying in Kapparis this time, usually stay at the Isaac Apartments so we are thinking of hiring one for a few days so hoping to barter and get it a bit cheaper for a longer period. It will be handy going backwards and forwards between Kapparis and Pernera.

I'm interested to find out how safe buggies are on the road? Would love to hire a quad but been advised by too many people that they are not safe.
Thanks

Buggies are as safe as you make them, just like cars, trucks or a tank !

If you go weaving through traffic at full speed not watching what you are doing, paying no attention to whats up ahead or coming from behind then you might find yourself in trouble.
I didn't feel any less safe driving it around (and we went from Pernera out to Ayia Napa, into Paralimni, Kapparis and around all the old villages etc) than being in a car. !

Do bare in mind you are told you can't go off road ! You will need sun glasses if its one like we got without a windscreen and make sure you put plenty of sunblock on as you will burn !

Thanks steve,

we've hired motorbikes and Quads in the past and TBH I felt perfectly safe. Hubby is a capable driver and we're not silly kids who are going to abuse them or put ourselves in dangerous situations. The reason I asked about the buggies is that I've been told quads aren't built fof the road and no matter how good a driver you are or how careful you're driving, they can be easily tipped on corners due to the suspension and can easily skid due to the type of tyres. I was just wondering if the same can be said for buggies. I'd be interested to hear from people who condemn quads- How do you feel about buggies?

Buggies seem to be built on almost the same chassis as the quads they hire, however you are sat much much lower so a lot less chance of tipping. They don't really go fast enough to be worried about sliding out on corners (probably about 80kmh with a downhill). You obviously get a feel for the cornering and adjust to suit. We just drove it around like we would a car, so not hammering it in to bend and turns etc...

As an add on to what Steve says when we were in Pernera I asked a few different questions

a/ how fast can they go --- the answer was that most are limited to 50kmph and the others were limited to 75kmph -- so 30 & 40 mph tops

b/ how far can you take them -- the answer is from Protaras and Pernera the furthest you can go is Ayia Napa any further and the police will take the buggy of you then you have to get back to your hotel and then pay the reclaim fee to get the buggy back the insurance does not cover it

the other answer are already covered -- take lots of sun screen take sunglasses don't bother at night it's not your driving that you have to worry about it the other road users

Whilst we were in Pernera we saw lots of idiots on off road bikes (not hire bikes either you can tell from the registration plates) there were a few Quads tippling over due to too much throttle the other problem was the other road users getting too close trying to intimidate the buggy drivers who were usually teenagers

I don't think there was a restriction on how far or where you could go with ours but you are not allowed on the motorways... so maybe thats where the police could get involved (blue signs and 100kph speed limits... your on a motorway..)

Hi Steve

Just passing on what I was told but I think that your answer maybe the real answer as there really could be no other way to Police it anyway who in their right mind would want to take one of those things on a motorway
