does anybody out there know if there are building regulations like we have in the uk,such as should a new build property have a damp course?

There are many building regs on Lanzarote, but having a damp proof course is not one of them. The regs are mainly to do with size of property, height etc etc, and it depends where you are building what the regs will be. For example, where I live you can build on nothing smaller than 500 sq meters, but on the other side of the road you only need a 200 sq meter plot! If you are thinking of buying land to build on then it is vital that you have the help of a professional. If you are buying new build then the specification should tell you all you need to know.
