I was speaking to someone recently in Goa who told me that there were four hotels in Baga in breach of building regulations stating that properties have to be 200 meters away from the high tide line.
Can anyone shed any light on this rule - does it exist and if it does, are the Goan authorities likely to enforce it?
Given the amount of tourists going to Goa I would have thought that such a ruling would be quite damaging to the local economy.
Thanks
Neil
PS
Didn't mention any hotel names in case this story wasn't true and I got my wrists slapped!
I think it's a move forward as the sewage and water problem is apparantly getting out of hand. It just means tourists will have to spread out in Goa. There are too many tourists in the Candolim to Baga stretch that it's generating a problem with water supplies for Goans who stay inland. Also the sewage problem is becoming a worry.
Jimmys house near the jail had parts taken down but as always money talks and the rest was left alone.
Try reading this... see what you think will be done....
