I may be completely wrong here..But i thought all building work had to stop in resorts during the summer months in turkey!

I also though all building work stopped from May 1st but 2 years ago the road works were still going on in Gumbet until the beginning of June.

Unless things have changed in the last year, building work in resorts does have to stop by the beginning of May. There were always inspectors checking that work had stopped and anyone that didn't got fined, so I'm a bit surprised that TC have told you this.

I was of the same opinion - all building work should stop for the season. I know they carried on with the roads a couple of years ago but in previous years, hotel building work has had to stop in the resort.

It's difficult to advise what to do. To be honest, I know people who have stayed in the Miraluna and have enjoyed themselves - it's in a better location than the Sun Hill (no massive hill and much closer to the beach).

Do let us know what you decide.

It appears there's quite a lot of steps around the complex as well. Someone counted 137 steps from the bar to their room :yikes

Hi, sorry I forgot to come back to update.

I went into TC and they had got a building report. The work was a grade 2 which meant the building was up but there was still a lot of machinery on site and a lot of noise. They had a list of various machines which were there and also skips etc. They said the noise can be heard from the pool, reception, bar and restaurant and most rooms. The work was being done on the hotel right before the entrance to the SunHill so we would be passing it everytime we went out. They were due another building report on 5th May but I told them I didn't want to wait that long and wanted to switch hotels.

That was a bit of a problem because I had only paid £1400 in Sept for the 2 weeks and all other hotels were £2000+ so they wanted me to pay the difference. After an hour and a half in store with the manager (who was great btw) ringing round all sorts of departments they first of all offered to switch me and knock £57 off my new bill :que but she eventually got them to agree to switch me to The Esra in Altinkum and for me to pay just £100 instead of the £600 they wanted.

It's a whole different place to where we wanted to go but it was the only AI hotel with a family suite instead of a standard hotel room (done that before....4 people in one room made for a nightmare holiday) so I agreed and although I'm happy to not be going to a building site I'm a little apprehensive now but I read that The Esra has just been renovated and I think it should be ok. It is the first year they are doing all inclusive so I'm not sure what to expect from the food but the reviews seem to be ok for everything else.

I think maybe if I had held out then the building work might have been completed but I didn't want to take the chance.....and as has been pointed out, we're now avoiding all the steps!!

Thanks for the replies :D

At least Thomas Cook informed you of the work and have given you the opportunity to change hotels.
Thomson are still selling holidays to the Marhaba Palace in Port el Kantoui and the hotel next door is being totally rebuilt.
They are denying that they knew of this work and lots of people are cancelling and rebooking else where
