Hi- I think the people who pay to reserve cabins get the ones they choose, often for a particular position, and the people who don't reserve get what's left. You don't get a cabin number without paying the extra, only the guarantee of that grade. What ship?

it's the calypso, what i meant was out of the people who have'nt paid the extra to select their cabin would the the people who booked say 9 months ago get the better cabins than say the people who booked 3 weks ago , i know they will be the same grade but some are larger than others if this makes sense. thanks.

Having been on the Calypso last year - and had a wonderful time - I would think that it depends not only on the type of cabin that you have chosen but on which deck you are. I was on Deck 3 in a 4 berth inside cabin and had far more space than those with two berth outside cabins. And I believe that the 4 berth inside cabins on Deck 2 were more spacious than mine.

Whilst I can't read into a crystal ball in your case, I looked up the cruise several times over the weeks before we sailed and noted which cabin grades were still available. You may find that the grade you have chosen sells out, in which case you might consider paying and choosing a specific cabin .... or hope that there will be spare space in your grade on board if you don't like the cabin they allocate.

That said, I spent very little time in my cabin as there was so much to see and do!

The cabins that are left in the grade you have chosen without paying for a specific cabin number, are allocated about a week before you travel. These are only done at random so its pot luck. It dosnt mean that the people who booked 9 months ago will be allocated a larger cabin ust because they booked early. I am sure you will be happy with what they give you. Even if you paid to pre-book your cabin number now at £35.00, this does not mean that there would be the cabin number that you want left. You will be fine, just look forward to it and dont worry. You may be surised and end up with the best cabin.

Hope you have a great time. We just came back from 2 weeks on Calypso and loved every one of the ports. We had a superior outside on deck 6 near the back. These are a little smaller than the ones at the front, but have the advantage of being close to the deck at the back, nearly as good as having a balcony!
