Booked to go to Domingos in August,
There will be an 8 year old who should be no problem, my worry is my daughter who will be 14 months when we travel.
Should we get a First Choice Baby pack ?? are they worth it, what tips or help can anyone offer for taking a baby abroad.
this is new ground and a bit scary - all advise would be appreciated.
also there are not many reviews for this place on the site, does anyone have any knowledge they can pass on.
Thanks
In regards to taking your daughter abroad - we took our little girl to spain at 5 months and malta at 12 months. The main things from my experience are that you probably wont need half the stuff that you plan to take for her, take a tube of travel wash and also if she is a fidgett in her sleep then i would take a fitted cot sheet. We took one the first time as i wasnt sure what bedding the hotel would provide and with her still being so young.....anyway they put a regular sheet on the bottom of the cot and half way through the first night i found my daughter all wrapped up in it so i swapped it for our own fitted sheet.
Hope this might help!
Hi my family and i had a holiday here for 2 weeks...not a bad holiday a lil out of the way from all the bars and resturants( one on site wasnt great) ...the quickest way is to go across the beach will take you about 10 mins away unfortunetly there wasnt any decking/path on sand which made it difficult with a buggy...so i guess the easiest way for u would b by taxi
The baby pack may be useful to someone with a smaller baby but I'd say you'd probably get away without it, unless you think you'd get use out of the highchair, buggy, playpen, UV sun tent etc bearing in mind they will provide a cot anyway.
One thing I would say is to consider if the items in the welcome pack are maintained properly and to your standards - we once had a Thomson Super Family buggy with dodgy brakes and it was mega manky! We ended up going and buying one locally.
Since then we've taken our own which works better from the point of view that it's somewhere to plonk a sleepy/cranky baby whilst you're at the airport and if God forbid you're delayed there's somewhere for them to sleep. You can take to aircraft steps and collect at Palma without too much hassle.
Similarly a cot that Thomson deemed perfectly acceptable was akin to a death trap (the base being lower than cot sides) and I didn't like the look of cot mattresses so in future years we took our own travel cots - twins were used to them so no night time trouble.
Yes our load increased - but all things considered I'd do it the same way rather than risk it again.
At 7m I would have found highchairs in our accomodation useful but not particularly so at the 18m point - I guess it depends on what they are used to at home of course. The UV sun tent is okay for babies that stay in one place but for on-the-move toddlers you'll struggle to get them to stay in it for any length of time.
My own tips are:
Take your buggy in a buggy bag (from Mothercare) - can be used to store towels which takes weight out of suitcase and helps 'protect' buggy. The bag itself also makes your buggy easily identifiable and if anything drops off it drops off in the bag NOT on the tarmac at departing airport.
Take fitted sheets for cot/travel cots - as someone has already said, they work loose and baby can become all wrapped up.
Buy nappies out there - Dodot brand nappies in Majorca are our Pampers.
Buy silly toys from Poundland and the like and bring out at various stages of the flight/journey - you can leave them behind when you come home.
Take a stroller blanket in your hand luggage as it can get cool on board and little one may appreciate it if he/she falls asleep.
I've got loads more but can't think of more off the top of my head.
Tisonlymoi. You are a mine of information Brilliant. We are going to Sa Coma in October (I know from reading posts you are regular visitor to Cala Bona/Cala Millor). Do you go into Sa Coma? If you do, what are your favourite places? PS How old are your kids now?
We've been to Sa Coma a few times - mainly during the day. I took my eldest on boat trip from Cala Bona to Sa Coma but we chose the wrong day and it was rather rough - when we got to Sa Coma I said a few Hail Mary's as there's no harbour just rocks and I was scared stiff we'd get squished We got off okay but I vowed NEVER again!
Other times we've taken the land train from Cala Bona into Sa Coma but it can get quite busy coming back - last time we ended up at the front with the driver who let my eldest toot the horn which he thought was ace.
I think the only place we've eaten at was a place on the beach front - thoroughly enjoyed it but couldn't tell you what it was called. We've said we're going to have a few more visits this year now the kids are older (eldest is 8 and twins are 4) I think they'll enjoy it and of course there's more shops for me to have a look in
We have stayed at this resort 3 times now and loved it so much (well 3 times that says it all) that we have booked to back in October this year.
The resort itself is not on the scale of magaluf or palma nova but it all depends on what you are looking for. If you are after a small resort without the nightclubs etc... then this could be the place for you. There is a few shops, restaurants and bars, but on the whole is a very quiet resort. The accomodation is about a 10 minute walk from the town, access either across the beach and up some steps.... or if you go out of the accomodation, down to the roundabout, turn left, then about 5 mins up the road is a very steep dirt track on the right hand side which leads you direct into the middle of the resort. Would not recommend that way for people with walking difficulties or with buggies, but it does cut a bit of of the beach way
Anyway gone on enough, anybody any questions, please feel free to ask and will do my best to answer them
