Bex, just got back (20/03/05) from a weeks holiday in Caleta Amarilla here's my review hope it helps.

Unusually for us we booked this holiday on the spur of the moment and at short notice before checking the holiday review forums, When we did we were somewhat concerned about our choice and approached the holiday with some trepidation.
In our experience I have to say, any fears soon evaporated after our arrival and any troubles the site may have had would seem to have been rectified by the management and staff.
We were on side A apartment 8, there was no view but it was quiet and near, but not too near, the noisier pool and bar area. Side B is where the entertainments bar and restaurant are situated and therefore busier and noisier.
We found the site to be smart and tidy with maintenance of the buildings and grounds ongoing whilst we were there.
Our apartment was well appointed and very clean with no insect problems. There were signs of damp but this problem was obviously being addressed and there was no damp smell.
Security of the apartments was an issue that cropped up in some reviews and was one of the main things that concerned us. I have to say that again these problems seem to have been resolved. There is a decent enough fence around the perimeter, lock on the front patio doors, bolt on the bathroom window and latch on the rear drying area door. This latch was a little loose for my liking but a quick word with reception and it was soon fixed.
There is a safe deposit box in each apartment, which for peace of mind I would advise the use of, at a cost ?12 plus a returnable ?5 deposit for a week.
Another area of concern was the food. Now bearing in mind this is a 3 star resort I thought the food was very good. It was varied, well cooked and well presented and most tastes were catered for. My only areas of criticism were limited desserts, dreadful coffee and very average wine. But hey we?re only talking mass product three star all inclusive hear and as such it does a pretty good job, there?s even a corner with two seater tables just for couples.
Above all I think it?s the staff that makes Amarilla Appts. Whether in the restaurants, bars, reception, cleaning or maintenance, all staff without fault are friendly and helpful.
Caleta Amarilla is very much a family friendly resort. This is fantastic for parents with young children but there didn?t seem to be much for older children, from what I could see there was nothing in the sports department to entertain them.
We gave the entertainment bar a try and for a couple it was hell on earth something we only did the once. Adult entertainment doesn?t start until 10.00 and was very patchy, parrot show anyone. We were lucky the one night we did give it a try a reasonable act called Dynamic were on and made the evening bearable. To compensate there is an adult only music bar that opens at 09.00 but it is a cavernous and soulless place that lacks atmosphere, but absolutely great to get away from the kids. The only other option is to go off site, if you don?t mind paying for a few drinkies, there are a few bars nearby with Sky sports and Karoke if you like that sort of thing. Or you can take a leisurely 15 minute stroll down into the main part of Caleta De Fuste.
Caleta Amarilla complex is only 15 mins from the airport and is in the flightpath so be warned there is plane noise. The first flight comes in at 07.30, handy if you?ve forgotten your alarm clock, followed pretty quickly by about five more flights. It then settles down and comes in dribs and drabs for the rest of the day up until late evening.
But in all honesty it isn?t really a problem as they go over so quickly and the peace soon returns.
So to sum up, anyone going to the Caleta Amarilla Appts. don?t set your expectations to high it is after all only a 3 star resort and as such it does its job very well. I wouldn?t hesitate in recommending it to young families, but it might not suit some young and middle age couples who are trying to avoid children.

Hi Sutton

We will be on the 14:00 flight out of Manchester on the 18th, can't wait really. Still a bit apprehensive though. You will probably hear me anyway (or my husband) pulling my hair out and screaming at my kids!! (Kain & Bailey) so if you hear us, come over say hi and offer me some solace!!

I have just read on another web site that there is some building work going on in the complex but no details were given. Has anyone just returned from holiday and knows anything about this???

there seems to be a lot of work going on all over. we are off tomorrow (very excited) and we have had to be moved

if you ring up your travel agent they should be able to tell you...although mine weren't that helpful, telling me there was no note on my booking referance so there must be no building work whilst we are there. but then they rang me 2 weeks later to say that we have to be moved!

just hoping its nice acommadation

Did you mean you were supposed to be staying at the Caletta Amarilla and you have been moved???

no sorry!! it was at another hotel....

but it seems to be happening at a lot of hotels at the moment. i would defo ring your agency and see what they advise

some companies dont even tell you & you turn up over looking a building sote, so i think we have been lucky!

we have ended up being on total the different side of the resort, but a holiday is what you make it!

hope you get it sorted!

I have received a letter from First Choice stating that the Playground is no longer available!!! I was then informed that there was never a playground there (although it is in the brochure) and that there was one being built and work was starting on this on the 1st June and would definately be finished in time for the start of my holiday which is 15th June. Has anyone just returned who can confirm any of this???

Also just a bit of info, the Caleta Amarila and the Caleta Dorada are merging next year so the facilities from both complexes will be togther, this is advertised in 2006 brochure and sounds great!!

I have just returned from 2 weeks all inclusive and it was fantastic. The food was great, plenty of choice and heard no complaints when we were there. Restaurant staff very efficient and friendly. We were in an excellent location (for us anyway with 2 small children), we were on side B (15b) directly opposite the main showbar and pool, room was spotless and the cleaners were in every other day. Snack bars were great serving chips, burgers, hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, ice cream and the bar on side A serves pizzas which were very nice. You've got to be up early to get a sunbed especially on side B, and its very difficult to get a parasol, we actually saw people wrapping parasols up in their towels and taking them back to their rooms!!! How sad is that!! The entertainment team were fantastic, Vince, Kieran, and Billy were brill, really made sure everyone had a good time, they played waterpolo everyday (this all goes on in pool B), along with activites for the kids to get them out of the sun, my kids didn't go to the kids clubs but they sounded great. Kids disco starts at 8.30pm with the same songs every night but played in a different order!!!, then you have bingo, and then some sort of act, we enjoyed every night and the kids loved it. I think the resort was a bit of a let down but to be honest you don't really need to go elsewhere becasue there is always something going on. There is a beach directly behind the Atlantico shopping centre which is lovely and its really quiet, if you are going self catering there is a very big Spar inside of the Atlantico aswell. If you are going soon then you will enjoy it, it's not a quiet hotel and most of the people when we were there seemed to be from the North so really friendly people, only thing I would say is that there is absolutely nothing to do for older kids so if you're taking 10+ they will be bored on anight time and we found alot of older kids running around on a night and hanging around in gangs. Enjoy, we did!!!

Returned last week, weather was great in 80's, bit windy (to be expected), but sand storms on a copule of occasions, you will love the hotel it is fantasic, and the entertainment team are great, food was a lot better than we expected, in fact I managed to put 9lb on in 2 weeks, beware!!! Enjoy your holiday
