we are lookign at visiting Fuerteventura for the first time in april 2010, all of the reasonably priced villas seem to be within the above areas. normally we look for a property in a quiet area but close to a selection of restaurants and like to savour the local customs rather than "britsish bars". i was wondering what these resorts are like and which one people would recommend for a quieter holiday.
thanks
I love it, but obviously it's not to everyone's taste There are some nice Italian and Portugese restaurants in the resort and some lovely villas up "chipmunk mountain" with gorgeous views of the harbour. If you don't like Caleta, then at least it's fairly central for exploring the rest of the island.
Corralejo is slightly more cosmopolitan, bigger and busier, but it's not "quiet" and doesn't really have much in the way of "local" (Canarian) customs, although it is a bit more Spanish than Caleta. Corralejo is also handy for getting the ferry over to Lanzarote for a day out. You also have the stunning sand dunes just a few minute's drive away from Corralejo.
Both resorts have a good selection of "British" bars - I'd say Caleta is one of the most "British" resorts outside the Med. The fact that Caleta de Fuste is under the flight path of aircraft coming in to land at the nearby airport might be of more significance to you. I counted half a dozen planes flying fairly low level over the resort in the hour we spent on the beach there one Saturday in May this year. A good resort for plane spotters though !
Nice short transfer to/from the airport though! I live under the flight path for Manchester Airport, and Caleta beach is quiet in comparison to my back garden! There are no flights at night, so your sleep won't be disturbed (unlike where I live - although I'm used to it anyway) and the first flight in the morning comes in around 7:30am but you'll probably find you'll sleep through that one after the first few days. They tend to come over Caleta in "batches" through the day and then it'll be quiet for a bit until the next "batch" is due inRobbo11 wrote:The fact that Caleta de Fuste is under the flight path of aircraft coming in to land at the nearby airport might be of more significance to you.
Come and stay in Corralejo and look around the North of the island by car when you are here. If you let me know what kind of local customs you are looking for before you come I will let you know what is available and where. If you are looking for traditional authentjc canarian cuisine Corralejo is great and I can recommend some more places in the villages.
Just PM me a couple of weeks before hand and I will help you out.
Cheers
Dave
