Hi Lynnedy thanks for the reply I have heard mixed reports about the hotel. They were fairly bad at the beginning of the year but the most recent reports are a lot better maybe it has improved when the name changed. As for taxis we won't be needing them as we have transfers incl uded in our holiday but someone on another topic has posted this email address Sinaitaxi@hotmail.co.uk and said to email them for a quote they are supposed to be quite reasonable. Nice to hear from someone who has been to that part of Egypt

thanks for your help Angie

We get taxis as they are very cheap and I hate sitting on a coach going round the houses so to speak, its about £5 - £6 to the hotel from the airport

if I can help you regarding anything please ask.

we stayed here for a week last year in june. it is a lovely hotel, right on the beach. we had a huge room as we had the 2 kids with us, they also enjoyed this holiday..we never left the hotel the whole week we were there and never got bored. we are off to the sunrise island view in july bur our friends have booked to back to the calimera the end of august, we have tried to book up to go with them but the hotel is booked solid so it must be popular. it did used to be called the albatros moderna then changed to the calimera royal moderna. i was looking on med hotels and it was a different name again!!!! just remember it`s NOT the beach albatros, that`s somewhere else..

Thanks Sharon thats reasuring to hear. we are a bit nervous with it being our first time in Egypt. Its also our first time all inclusive but as you say if the hotel is fully booked they must be doing something right ha ha.I just got a bit concerned when I saw the different names we went to turkey a couple of years ago and the name of the hotel had changed because the owners had lost it in a gambling debt and it was terrible. Now I just have to check out the flights as we are flying with flyjet and I have just read some bad reports about them. Thank God for these forums eh. I think Iwill be on here up till the holidays haha

Hi folks, im off to this hotel on Tuesday 26th june, So if theres anything you want me to find out for you give me a shout quick, by pm and ill try to help you out.
Will do a report on here when im back 10th july.
We booked everything separate flights with xl hotel and transfers with medhotels. came to 1,700 for 3 adults and 1 child for 2 weeks all inc,
Cheapest with all other well known companies was 2,300 so we well chuffed at savings.
Med hotels just do transfers 4.00 per person each way, but if a fe of you would be cheaper to get a taxi.
Ok chat soon, heres looking forward to a great hotel and holl.........

Hi Angie.
We stayed at this hotel in March this year and had a great time. It was called the Beach Albatros.
Have no fears its a great hotel, rooms are spacious, and while we were there the hotel was undergoing improvements such as new tiles being fitted around the outside bars.
There are plenty of sunbeds both around the pool and on the beach. The jetty is about 500yds long as the sea is very shallow. The hotel is at the end of a series of hotels so you can walk quite a way along the beach promanade if you feel energetic.
We heard some people had encounterd the dreaded tummy bug, but I can honestly say that not once did we have any problems with the food I even ate the ice cream every day and that usually gets me.
In the buffet restruant there is a refrigerated salad bar which we used all the time, it was always fresh and kept cool. The staff are great as there are more british going to this hotel they seem to take to us better than some of the other nationalities. The entertainment at night is I have to say a lot naff but the germans love it and you have to see it to belive it. We would definatley go back as I say we had a great holiday, if you want any specific info let me know.
Cheers
Pete

Thanks Pete its so nice to hear some nice reports on the hotel. I was just a bit nervous as we are taking our elderly parents with us although they are very young at heart they dont have such strong constitutions as us ha ha. We were wondering how much money we would need aswell can you tell us if you have to pay for cocktails at this hotel we know we need money for the trips but we have never gone all inclusive before so we are not sure what we have to pay for. Thanks so much for the reassurance I just love this site for that.

Hey Angie,

Just to say that we are off to the Calimera on the 19th July (Oh my! that,s next week!) second visit for us, went last easter, tried the csr last summer but does not compare! so have no reservations at all in returning, can,t wait!! the only thing I need is their email or web site address! anybody help?

Hi Angie
No you dont pay for the cocktails, everything is AI , We took a taxi into Namma bay only about £10 return, this is where all the action is and we stayed there for about six hours loads of shops etc to get your souviners, we prefered to be back at the hotel to be honest.

There are A LA Carte restruants at the hotel which you have to pay for but they are very reasonable but again we never bothered to use them as the buffet was good enough with plenty of choice. Oh and you get plenty of spirits in the cocktails, try the Albatros and of course the Calimera.

If your are after the email address look for: http://www.pickalbatros.com/sharm/royal/royal.html
Any more info give me a mail

Hi All,

I have booked to go away to this hotel in September this year with my girlfriend and little one. From most of the reports i have read i am really looking forward to going and think it is going to be really nice.

As it is our first time in Egypt we would appreciate any advice anyone can give us on things to take, the hotel itself and getting around (i.e. the taxi's) We are going to have to get a taxi from the airport to the hotel as we have booked independently. I have seen a few contridicting reports of how much you should be expecting to pay for this journey. Could anyone give me an idea of what we should expect (and how hard you need to barter/things you need to say to get to this price)

If anyone can also clear up the visa requirements and a recent price?

Egyptian Pete.. ive followed that link you posted but the contact us page wont display, do you have an email address?

Really appreciate any help anyone can give us (this site has always been great) via a reply here or a PM

thanks

Gaffer :D

(PS : If you have any other advise ive not asked about please let me know)

Hi Gaffer
Follow the web link I put on the previous reply, when the page opens click on the profile heading then on that page click on contact us heading this will then give you the emails of their hotels, you need to look for beach sharm (this is the Calimera).

Taxi from the airport is £5, pay them in english or Euros, you shouldn't have to haggle, just say No it's £5.

If you are staying in the Sinia area in other words not going on any trips outside the resort of sharm you don't need to buy a visa, if however during your holiday you want to go to for example to Cairo or on a trip outside the Sinia then you will need a visa which the rep can sort out for you at the hotel as they will not want to lose a sale.
If you decide to get a visa at the airport on arrival good luck its chaos and a long wait.
On the plane you should get an entry visa this is free, fill it in on the plane and on the back write Sinia only, go straight to passport control and there you are.
As I say you can organise a visa if you want at your resort hotel it's just a hassle for the rep instead of you, Oh and the cost of one is £15.
Any more info let me knoe
Happy Hols

Thanks Pete!

Found it and used it!! this time next week we will be sitting in the departures lounge at Gatters with a cold beer, hopefuly not for too long, not sure how the extra security is affecting flight times yet, but hey we love the atmosphere at the airport anyway!!

Anyone you want me to say hi to when I get there?
Reply
Hi Pete,

Thanks for the reply, i have not got onto that page now, for some reason when i went on the other day i was clicking straight into "Contact us" and it was giving me a 404 page not found.

Right, now i know what im expecting to pay them im not going to get ripped off which is great.

We are not expecting to move out of the Sinia region as we are taking a little one and we dont think he would react well to the heat. One thing we were planning on doing is taking a boat trip or two, im assuming going on one of these from Sharm is not classed as going outside of the Sinia? Also do you have an idea of how much i would expect to pay for one of these? and is it best to book through a rep or a local operator?

Are there any places that we shouldn't go (dangerous or just a bit dodgy) or just things we should look to avoid/be wary of?

Also is there any essential items we should bring plenty of from England(i.e. i was told paracetemol was very expensive)? I mean anything really, not just medication...

thanks for all your help in advance Pete.. :D

PS - delboy, would it be possible for you to give me a report on the hotel/what you did while you were there if i send you my email address over private message?!

Be a pleasure Gaffer!

I,ve been told that they,ve upgraded the place since we were there last year and we loved it then, how old is your "little un" mines 5 now but she was 4 last time she was there and loved every minute! even took her and her 9 year old sister to Cairo for the day!

Thanks delboy, that'll be great!

He will be nearly 4 when we go in september but he's not been abroad before so not sure how he's going to be in the heat of Egypt. So I take it you mean your little girl was fine in the heat? think we'll play it by ear and see how he is, from what i read it looks like we can get hold of a visa once we are there if we want to go.

The upgrade to the Hotel sounds good :D will PM you my email address so i can get that report off you when you get back (really appreciate that by the way)

thanks

David :D

PS : Egyptian Pete, If you could please answer my question in my post above this one then that would be fantastic.

Hi DAVID ( RASH VEST )
ive replied to your pm but notice you have a little one with you. I strongly suggest you buy a rash vest from NEXT, Mothercare may do them also they are like a tight t.shirt but have a built in factor 50 i got 1 off ebay for my lad as next dont do his size small mens. most of the kids in the pool wore them and didnt get burnt, i used a sunblock on his face as that was starting to get sore and even factor 40 wouldnt protect his face.
mind you it was still 31 degrees at night so you can imagine the days heat, you may be ok in september.
You have my email any other questions.....carriejayne..........x
