Camping at Punta Sabbioni, Venice

Hi all ! I'm very new to this forum. In fact, I've only just discovered it but wish I'd known of it earlier as I'm off to Italy next week!

I'm after some general advice really but wonder whether anyone has a personal recommendation of the campsite we're staying at please - Marina di Venezia?

And can anyone tell me how easy it will be to get there please? We (me, my partner, my 2 year old son and my 60 year old mother!) are flying into Marco Polo and then intend to get a bus to Punta Sabbioni. I think I have to change at Jesolo?

Any general hints and tips much much appreciated. I have been to Venice before on day trips but never stayed and certainly not with my whole family!

From Marco Polo airport, catch the Alilaguna (water bus) to Venice Lido and, from there, change to water bus line 14 to Punta Sabbioni. It takes approx 1h 20 mins

Alternatively, by bus to Jesolo, change, and off to Punta Sabbioni takes over 1h 40 mins

That's great - thanks for the advice!

I'm torn now between the two options - which do you think would be easier with our luggage? I really want my Mum's first glimpse and experience of Venice to be memorable and was imagining catching the ferry from Punta Sabbioni once we were settled in our accommodation. But if we took the water bus to get us there, which sounds more appealing at the moment, she'd see more of it on the way over, wouldn't she? Would that be a good thing or bad thing? I'm not sure .... what would you do?

What I would do? I would opt for a private transfer, let someone else carry my bags to a water taxi or car, sit back and let someone else drive while I take a nap and arrive at destination fresh and rested. Of course it's more expensive, but when on holiday I always balance finances with comfort.
As far as public transport is concerned, I would go for the Alilaguna water bus, different experience and great views of the lagoon. The service stops at Murano before reaching Lido. Staff on Alilaguna are always helpful with luggage and the journey is relaxed... and you don't risk getting caught in traffic.

I have no personal experience of the Alilaguna, but if you really want to keep your Mum's first glimpse of Venice special, then i would advise you to take the bus to Jesolo, change at Piazza Drago, and take the number 5 service to Punta Sabbioni.......that way you can reserve the first glimpse of Venice to a time that you are relaxed, and ready to enjoy

Thank you both Venice and CiderMonster - now what should I do??!! Ha ha! :roll:

I think I'll probably ask Mum and the rest which they would prefer and simply check what seems the easiest and best thing to do once we get there!

Hi Harrie,

Hope you had a wonderful holiday. If you are back, then I would be really interested to hear what Marina di Venezia was like, as my partner and I are heading on holiday there next week.

Also, what option did you go for in regards to getting to Punta Sabboni as we are still undecided if water taxi or bus would be the best.

Interested to hear you thoughts and tips!

Hi There, We did our transfer from Marco polo to Mestre by bus it was very convienient but the bus was crowded and we had to stand for most of the journey. Another thing to watch for if you catch the bus is that tickets must be purchased from a machine before boarding ( its the same on the trains) I cant remember the coach companys names but there where 2 that did the same run and one was twice the price of the other.

I hope you had a good holiday and am assuming you are back now? I would be really grateful if you could tell me how you found the transfer to Marina di Venezia? We are flying to Venice Marco Polo next week and need to transport ourselves and three under 5's to the camp site. My gut feeling is to take a private water taxi but they do seem really expensive. However tackling the public transport system with 3 kids and luggage is not appealing! Any advice gratefully received!
