AMYH,

No, they have just stopped their coach operation, they still have homes to rent at CDP ... just that i aint a flier, so they won't be getting my cash anymore, and the only other option for CDP by coach is Siesta, and i'd rather not!!!

Just had a reply from La siesta campsite re Inter Brava

They are not operating any mobile homes from the site and if you look on Inter Bravas website they only offer homes at Castell Montgri

The camp site have directed me to a company called "Tent Holidays" who having looked at their website appear to offer both tents and mobiles CDP.

Hope this helpful to anyone wishing to go

My god, what's happening to that company?

I can assure you that the brochure i got a couple of months back (which i had already told them i DIDNT want! :duh ) still had Calella DP in it!!! I feel really sorry for the team there, as they were a great bunch of reps

Not looking promising, but i already made my views clear about what would happen if they dropped the coaches!!! Tent Holidays are a dutch company from what i saw in Estartit (was a dutch .NL website)

Hi Jude

Re buses from Gerona airport to CDP, check out the SARBUS website. You would need to catch a bus from airport to Gerona centre (approx 2 euros each), then a bus from Gerona centre to Palafrugell (up to 5 euros each). These buses are quite regular, but then from Palafrugell to CDP, there are only something like 3 buses a day, think they were 9.30, 12.30 and 16.30, so unless you manage to arrive on time to catch one of these, you will have to catch a taxi, not sure how much that would cost, but think Palafrugell is only about 15 minutes from CDP so shouldn't be too much. So, all in all, would work out cheaper than Lifestyle holidays transfer at £25 per person return, but not so convenient.

Cheers

Thanks Sarah,

That's really useful info, I will share it with my parents.
Didn't realise that Lifestyle were offering transfers, but at £150 return for three of us we'd be better hiring a car or as you suggest, changing buses at Gerona. I'm just not that confident driving abroad despite living and driving in Germany for 5 years!

Also got to sort out a transfer from Gerona to Pals for myself and my boys in May; thinking of getting a taxi then, less hassle when you've got kids in tow.

Sorry, you misunderstood, Jude. The transfer is £25 per person return fare (not one way). However, you are supposed to have a minimum of 4 people, so it might cost you £100 return for all 3 of you. Hope that makes sense!

I seem to have had a blonde moment there Sarah.... :que

I'll look into the transfers, I'd be willing to pay up to £100 return I think.
Will also check out Sarbus.

Have a good weekend.

Hi all you fans of Camping La Siesta,

We are booked for this site during the first two weeks of July this year. First time on this type of family holiday, I love the idea of the open space for the children and not all living together in a one bedroomed apartment. We have booked via Canvas Holidays, of all the great reviews I have read, I do not know what others think of Canvas, can anyone give me an update?

Cidermonster I loved your pictures, they are charming and picturesque, we love the spanish feeling of this area and would absolutely detest the idea of Blackpool in Spain! Not that we have anything against Blackpool, but there is a time and place for everything.

We are flying to Barcelona and have to make our own travel arrangements to Camping La Siesta, can anyone give any tips for car hire or airport transfers??? We are swithering about the hire of a car for two weeks, but seeing as we have not been in this area before we thought it best to hire a car,,, any thoughts on whether this would be a waste of money :que

We are staying in a caravan with Canvas do any of my experienced travellers know how the caravans are situated and how they are laid out?? The food on site and stores seem to offer good value for money and plenty of choice going by the reviews. Is there a cash point or money exchange on site???

Any other tips and pointers for travelling with two children (age 7 and 4) would be most welcomed for first time holidaymakers on this type of adventure.

I really look forward to hearing from you all.

Kaz :cheers

Hi Cidermonster,
I see you are online. Wanted to thank you for all your lovely pictures and comments on this site. I have loved reading your blog and updates, you have helped greatly and I do feel quite smug knowing I have picked our holiday well for this year.

I am really excited about going to Camping La Siesta. First time on this kind of family holiday, but it is so good to read all the positive comments from everyone.

Your photography is breathtaking and making me more keen to get there. :sun2

Thanks Again, any great pointers and tips for an even better holiday are most welcome.
Cheers from a happy and smiling fellow scot!

Thanks for the nice comments about the pics! You will love this resort, very picturesque :) I think my obsession with taking pics must irritate the wife at times though!! :rofl

There is a money exchange down at the main reception, can't recall seeing a cash machine, but then i never take my cards abroad so i wasn't really looking for one!

We were only there for a week, and as we hadn't been to the area, we spent plenty of time just walking to the many surrounding towns, beaches, and coves. If i ever went back for a fortnight, i'd hire a car i think, but only for a few days ... we like exploring by foot!

Do Canvas give you any idea of where you are on the site? Here is a map from the La Siesta website

Blog? I have a blog? :yikes

Cheers for the comments Cidermonster,

Thanks for the map. Tomorrow I will call Canvas to get idea of where caravan is situated. Were you in caravan or bungalow? What was the accommodation like?

We are quite fussy... well me I suppose, kids and hubby make do but I like things to be in good order and not too shabby...

What about walking to the nearest beach and restaurants, is it suitable for kids? I am not much of a beach lover, but as long as the sun is shining I could cope with anything...

Many thanks

What type of caravan are you staying in? We stayed in a mobile with Interbrava last year .. it was meant for 8 people and there are only 2 of us, so as you can guess it was good!!! :) Nothing overly fancy i guess, but good nonetheless ... BBC and ITV on the telly too! :tup

It will only take 10mins to get to the beach, and it's a nice wee beach, but might get crowded in July ... a further 10mins to Llafranc might be better. I'm not a beach person either, and the only swim i had was at Tamariu which is 3 HOURS walk away! :really Just watch, the beaches shelf quite steeply in this part of the Costa Brava - i'm more of a poolside person myself

Restaurants i can't vouch for, as being a veggie i give foreign restaurants a wide berth ... there is a chinese buffet place just outside the camp, but don't know how good it is

I hope this assists

We went to CDP last july. Our first ( and it wont be our last ) time having previously been to a lot of sites in the south of france. Absolutley loved it. We stayed in a siesta caravan which was great. Sorry i cant remember exactly where the canvas ones were. The area is nothing like Blackpool. I should know i live there. The coastline is fantastic. The bays at calella, about 10mins walk , are small but very pretty. No Yobs, just nice people on holiday. The walk to La Franc, about 20mins along the coast is a must and there you will find a larger beach with a number of good value bars and restaurants

The site is great and not to big. 2 good bars, a restaurant which was just OK, but situated in a good location overlooking the pool. The shop is cheap as is the bakery. We only went to the supermarket once, where as before we would perhaps go 3 or 4 times throughout our stay. There is a cash machine located near the supermarket.
The pool gets busy in the morning. You will get a space whenever you go to it but you might not get a bed. However after 3 it quietens off and you should be ok. If i think of anything else i will let you know

Hi AmyH

Thanks to everyone for their comments :cheers

We are really looking forward to this holiday. Fingers crossed everything we read is positive which is very rare but extremely satisfying especially as Camping La Siesta was not our first choice when we decided to book in October. So pleased that there was no availability for Pals or Sanguli when we called!!!

Again, anyone with experience of Canvas we would love to hear from. We are staying in a jubilee 29 midi c/w air con and decking, which should be great for sitting out at night with my bottle of wine! Just hoping the standard of caravan is high, and not shabby or poor :cry

We are staying the first two weeks in July, will be good to know if anyone else out there is planning a holiday at the same time.

I wouldn't worry about the caravans too much, Kaz. There are very few bad mobile homes around these days, and you don't spend too much time in them to be honest!!! I always enjoyed the aircon in the mobiles even though i never 'officially' had it!! ;)

I can vouch that the site supermarket is ok too .. quite a good stock and not bad value, which is handy as there really isn't the same options as you have in other places like Estartit with a Lidl outside the campsite!! :D
