Hello, I wondered if any of you could advise me on this as I'm a bit confused as to what to do. Apologies for the length of the post but I wanted to capture all the info.
On the 23rd December I booked a flight and hotel trip through Expedia.
The trip included flights with condor airlines direct from Manchester to Las Vegas and 4 nights at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
On the 28th December I received an email informing me that my flights had been cancelled by Condor Airlines.
On the 30th December I called expedia who informed me that the flights had been cancelled by condor and that someone would email me with further details. I never received an email.
On Wednesday 2nd January I again contacted expedia and was advised that the flight was cancelled as Condor hadn't issued a ticket due to unknown reasons, however I was assured that the error was condors. I enquired why the flight was still on sale on the Expedia website and I was told that this was due to a technical problem on the website and that the flight would be removed within a couple of days and was assured it was still not for sale and that this was common practice.
I was offered alternative indirect flights from Heathrow at an additional cost of £486. When I asked why I had to pay the difference an offer was made of a 50% cost sharing. I advised the staff member that this was still above what I wanted to pay and could really afford. A further offer of an additional £50 discount was made, I advised that I would need to check if this was affordable. At this point I was informed that I needed to make my mind up quickly as the flights may go.
I called back later and spoke to another member of staff. During this conversation I asked if there were any better time flights as the return flights were much poorer times than the original flights booked. I was offered a different time flight at the same price as the previous call. I advised I would need to think about it and was told I needed to decide that day or my whole trip would be cancelled.
As this trip is a surprise present for my wife's 40th birthday I felt that I had no choice other than to make a decision or lose the whole trip.
I therefore reluctantly agreed to the new flights and paid the additional £195 required to book the flights.
During this period I also contacted Condor to establish why they had cancelled the flight, they have today replied advising that the booking was cancelled as expedia did not issue a ticket number in time despite a reminder from them. They also advise that if expedia contact them they can give expedia the flights back.
I therefore decided to check the Expedia website tonight to see if the condor flights are still for sale and found they are, I have a screen print of this.
This has left me feeling very misled and very disappointed. I was informed that these flights which are direct flights were no longer available when they quite obviously are, I was advised that the issue with the flights was due to Condor, when it appears it may not have been and I felt pressured into paying more for an inferior trip with a threat of losing my booking.
I am now left almost £200 out of pocket with less time in the resort on what is a relatively short break, the prospect of 2 indirect flights -both of which have relatively short connection times and a general feeling of being misinformed and misdirected.
Ive written a complaint letter to Expedia but I was wondering if anyone knows anything re the issuing a ticket for the flight as I can't make sense of what either party should have done or if you have any advice on where I can go (if anywhere) with this.
Many thanks in advance
Condor don't do direct flights from MAN to LAS if by direct you mean non-stop. Their flights from MAN go via Frankfurt and they are not particularly cheap.
The only airlines which do go non-stop from MAN to LAS are Virgin and Thomas Cook.
An alternative indirect flight would be MAN-LHR-LAS with BA which is non-stop from LHR-LAS or you could fly with US Airways with a connection in the US.
What dates are your flights for?
The flights I've currently got are via San Francisco on the way out and via Chicago returning. Both are from/to heathrow.
I think you need to escalate this with Expedia by asking to speak to a team leader or supervisor. However it may be more difficult now that you have accepted alternative flights.
Flights really are better booked direct with an airline, rather than through a third party.
