Thanks A1giv, We have actually decided to go ahead and book with them now but they got back to us to say their current prices are only valid until March 2007 and did we still want to proceed with the booking, we said yes as long as we can cancel if the prices go up too much but as it is the weekend their office is closed until Monday so guess we won't find out until then. Can I just change the subject quickly A1giv as you live out there, what is the weather usually like in late May early June? Is it unpredictable? Do we still need long trousers, sweaters etc? Cheers!!

That time of year should be nice and warm but you might nee a jumper late at night hope this helps.

I have just booked Hertz at Barcelona for 10 days next May - £148 all in (except insurance excess waiver). To get the discount that I got you have to join the Hertz club - but it is free!! There is a company that does an insurance to cover the excess which we may consider - we have had one of their policies before - peace of mind really I suppose and they cover things like tyres and windscreens etc.

I prefer to actually book direct with the company if possible having had a bad experience a couple of years back in Madeira. We booked with a broker - paid in full - got to car rental desk in airport to find that the broker had gone 'bust' and no money for our rental had been handed over. We had to pay again but we were fortunate in that having paid the broker with a credit card we got back all the money.

Just hope the queues are not too long at Hertz - we have a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive down to the Costa del Azahar.

Hi Pippa, That sounds a great rate so we have looked into it and joined the Hertz club but have noticed that Collision Damage waiver is not included and may be compulsory, however reading the CDW small print it says if you decline you may be liable for the full cost of the car!! I can't see anywhere where the hire is "all in", can you please let me know if I am missing something? What catergary car is it you have booked? It is a little worrying what you have told me about the broker experience you had in Madeira, but fortunately we don't pay until we collect the car, still I would rather book with Hertz if the price is comparable, being a well established company. After you have put in your dates, destination etc and gone to next page there is a box 'I was told to ask for rate code' - put in WOW (world of wheels) in this box and it will come up with an inclusive price.

We have gone for the smallest model - Peugeot 107 or similar.

It is a little confusing as one quote I got was in euros with no CDW included - this plus everything had to be added making the cost more expensive.

It really is essential that you have CDW so don't quite understand why they quote a price without it? Perhaps there are some insurance policies around that cover all the additional items.

So long as you log in and use the code WOW in the I was told to ask for box you should get a reasonable quote.

What dates are you going?

PS - Log in and go to 'my profile' and click on the accept boxes for CDW etc. You will still need to use code WOW as this will give you a prepaid price otherwise you will get a higher quote. I have just checked and it is bit cheaper than yesterday!! Luck of the draw I suppose.

Thanks very much for that info Pippa, I managed to find my way around their site and put the code in that you gave and sure enough the discount came up, trouble is now trying to persuade hubby to cancel the old booking and rebook with Hertz as with Hertz you have to pay up front to get the discount, it's a difficult decision as we haven't paid any money yet for our booking with Autoturistica but they are not very well known and I don't want to risk them going bankrupt and us turning up to Barcelona and having to pay a whopping amount on the day from another company. We are also unsure of what type of car to hire, with Autoturistica we could get a Renault Megane type car for £20 less than Hertz but with Hertz that would be a Renault Clio which possibly may be too small for 2 adults and 3 kids, 3 suitcases? Do you know if there is much difference between a Clio and Megane? Never had either of these cars before. This year we actually hired a Fiat Punto and it was suprisingly roomy and we all fit fine. We are going next May 23rd for 17days. The Peugeot 107 I reckon will be way too small for us. This car hire lark is begining to be a pain!! Thanks again

We have had a Renault Clio before as a hire car and I would have thought it was as large as a Punto. Just had a look at the web site for Renault - and there is Megane hatch - so might not be a lot bigger that the Clio.

There are just the 2 of us so no problems!!

I too am looking for car hire in August at Barca Airport, I too used Carjet last year in Palma & had a great price. I have checked about 15 up till now & Carjet are still the cheapest.

Hi We finally booked our car hire with Autoturistica who actually are a broker who use Europcar at Barcelona airport, their prices are def the cheapest that we have found and we did alot of research on car hire a few months ago. Check them out, I don't know what the prices will be like for August though as we are going in May. Hope this helps.

Going to the Costa Brava in August,and flying to Barcelona airport.have been looking at car hire prices, cheapest so far are holiday autos £118 for 7 days.for a small car.

Pipefitter, I have just put a random date for August (as I don't know exactly when you are going, so I put 6-13th August) into the car hire firm Autoturistica and the price they gave for a small car is £105 for the week, (159 Euros). I def think they are the cheapest around, they use Europcar at Barcelona airport and they have been very helpful to us, they also reply to e mails really quickly.

C32 again most of the way then E15 ,about 80 mins if i remember right
duel carrigeway all the way apart from last few miles

1 problem was the toll roads ,ended up paying at 3 seperate booths rather than just once when you come off it ..god knows why
