Does anyone know of any car hire firms where you don't have to leave a credit card excess deposit? Have checked carjet and they require this and I'm not happy at leaving a deposit of €750 that will be refunded if the car is brought back ok etc.

Hi Glynis try http://www.economycarhire.com or INVALID URL both belong to same company but vary slightly in price. They cover you with full insurance no excess.You also get 2 drivers & exit into Spain if you stipulate it when you book. Excellent companies well recommended we use them regular. Cheers Jayjan
We have used Carjet (various places including Portugal) and have never had to leave a card excess deposit - primarily because they don't have any excesses. I thought this was still the case - we are using them in May so I will take a look at their website.

A little confusing this - there are a number of carhire companies which seem to be under the same banner as carjet. We actually use the following:-

and it clearly states on the site that there are no excesses. It looks the same as carjet though.

We can also recommend http://www.economycarhire.com as we used them last week while in Portugal and had no problems what so ever.
We booked them because of recommendations from this site such as Jayjans' and others.
We have used carjet in Spain before and they were also good but you didn't have to pay the excess like you do in Portugal. You can waive the excess, with carjet, by paying about 7euros per day extra.

Thanks again everyone. I have now booked with economy cars but they state in their email bumph that we need to leave a credit card deposit on arrival for the petrol. Is this the norm?

Hi Glynis. Travel rent are the company in Portugal who economy car hire use. They are fine. When you come through with your baggage they have a small stand just higher up on the righthand side, there are quite a few of these for different companies. As regards the credit card, If they do take your details it will be for petrol. They normally leave you with quarter to half a tank on pick up and expect you to drop it back off with the same amount in otherwise they will charge you. I would read through the terms and conditions then you are fully aware what you are covered for and what you are not. Cheers Jayjan

Cars have always been spot on (upgraded last 2 times) and the card imprint is for petrol. They are really lax on return of the car. Every time I have dropped it off they check the fuel and take the keys and give you back your credit card slip. Takes about 1 minute.

Thanks Lummie. I get myself in a bit of a tizz when booking with one company but actually renting off another. Plus I hate giving out CC details in resort as I'm always on my guard against being ripped off
100% agree with Lummie,no problems,very easy,good cars,I got the car I asked for probably the first time this has happened

The last 2 years its been a rather attractive young lady with long dark curly hair so look out for her?? Don't know why I should remember that
If they are free then it takes about 5 minutes as long as you have the printoffs with you.

I can't recommend Economy Car Hire (and their sister company Travel Autos) highly enough. They provide an excellent service at competitive prices, and their charges are truly all-inclusive. They're also easy and efficient to deal with.
I'm not sure whether your car could be delivered to the place where you are staying, or alternatively would it be easier for you to pick it up at Faro airport? This is what we always do.

As Roseweb said. Used this company several times and always been really easy and no problems at all. Collect from the airport, we always do. They may deliver to your hotel if you ask. The have been recommended by many on this site if you search through the other threads.
