Have a nice time.
We always use Carjet when in Iberia and found them excellent, touch wood never a hitch, but we did find car hire in Portugal to be almost twice that of Spain and there is an excess buy out with all car hire.
We used Economy car hire last year .100% good car ,very easy to collect and return
Had a bad experience with the named companies, customer service shocking, car type awaiting at airport COMPLETELY different, then had to book a different car group (cheaper) to get out of the airport. Needless to say, still awaiting balance refund AVOID, booked through economycarrentals, they are just as bad, only reply to e-mails when threatened, then do nothing.
sorry to hear you have had a bad time. I always pre book with Auto Europe before we go. We have always had very good service, always been met at the airport, very quick and friendly, cars have always been new and very clean and tidy, there was olny once when they did not have the car with Air Con that we had requested but the rep arranged to deliver it herself to us in Vilamoura later that day. I use them all the time.

They use a company on algarve called travel rent.Brill service, no excess and never had a problem with them and used them many times. well recommended. Frankie surely it aint the same company as you state as economy car rentals, many folks on this forum have been well satisfied with the website I have stated above, with many glowing reports, maybe they are different hire firm. http://www.economycarehire.co.uk are really good and I can recommend them personally.
They are a different company from economy car rentals.
Economycarhire are included in Kelkoo's car hire price comparison search engine at the link below if anyone is interested in comparing prices.

My only worry is transport, are there any car hire companies in Faro that have wheelchair accessible vehicles? ie a transit sized van with ramp/lift & securing points?
Cheers

Found the following link via good old google;haven't used the firm- just thought it might help.

The swim with the dolphins will need to be pre-booked as it's very popular.
Hope this helps and that you're able to make it happen for him !! and let us know how you get on.
Me again; the more I look at the site, the more I'm convinced that your problem is sorted. If you don't want to hire the van for the full length of your holiday, you can hire one, with driver, at an hourly rate.Really hope this works out for you and your lad !!
Took a quick look at the link you gave & thought it a little pricey compared to general car hire. We decided to leave it for now as we already have 2 weeks booked in September for Malta & have heard there is a Dolphin swimming experience there. If that doesnt come to fruition we will look at Portugal again.
Thanks anyway

are needed, the hire charges will have to make up for the "idle time."
Anyway, hope it works out for the boy in Malta - if not, you know where to look if you try again in Portugal.
Unfortunately, smithy, specialised transport such as you're looking for is always going to be more expensive than a bog-standard hire car, for the simple reason that the specialist vehicles are going to spend a lot more time unused and not earning money;therefore, when they Anyway, hope it works out for the boy in Malta - if not, you know where to look if you try again in Portugal.
Gonna look into wheelchair accessible vehicles while im there.
I know all about the prices disabled equipment costs only too well, cost us as much for a vehicle in australia as the the flights

Does anybody know if the child seats offered by most car-hire firms are appropriate for a 8/9 month old infant?
Does anyone have any experince of car-hire firms on the Algarve that will provide something more suitable than the usual booster cushion type seat?
We have booked using http://www.economycarehire.com and have asked for a child seat for our boy who will be 22 months when we arrive. However, I notice that you can book baby seats too.
We used the same company when we travelled to Menorca in May this year and they had the baby seats in the office when we arrived so try this company.
We've travelled all over Europe withour boy since he was 5 months old and never had a problem booking baby (and now toddler!) seats. Hope this helps.

It'll save you both money for hiring one and save you the worry of whether the one you get is suitable.
We have done both, hired one and took our own. Taking your own is much better.
We had guests staying in our villa who booked through Travel Rent and were met at the airport by a man who took them to one side and then asked them to pay cash. They were extremely worried as they were just given a slip of paper and sent outside not knowing whether there will be a car there or not. They felt it would be better to book through a more official company as they were worried that they may not be covered by insurance.
http://www.economycarhire.com they would have paid by credit card online, economy car hire use travel rent in portugal to supply their car rentals. Did they just ring travel rent up direct or ask them at the airport if they had a car available? I have seen some people asking who havnt booked anything and therefore they have to pay cash, but surely they would be given a receipt for monies paid. Cheers Jayjan
