Car Hire Malaga: I booked a car with Tony's Car Hire in Malaga airport. They were great. Very relaxed, and were waiting for us at the airport with a small sign. I ordered a Panda and was given a Focus. Cars are a little banged up, from a British point of view, but then all the cars in the Costa seem to be. Spanish drivers? or tourists?

Hi guys,
The reason we're going to Gibraltar is my daughter's wedding. It's cheaper to stay on the Spanish side of the border. We've got a really good deal on a long term let (the whole of the summer hols) in La Duquesa so I was wondering if any of the car hire companies do special deals for longer lets of more than the usual week or two?
We saw that some companies hire out Zafira's which is what we drive at home, and the extra seats would come in handy if we're meeting up with family etc. can we stipulate that that is the car we want or do we just have to take whatever is in that price band?

Carrentals.co.uk warns of hire car shortage

Carrentals.co.uk is warning of a shortage of hire cars this summer as suppliers run out of stock.

The car hire comparison site is urging British travellers to book early for the summer after a number of suppliers sold out in key locations over half term and Easter.

It claimed the problem was particularly bad in popular locations such as Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Faro.

Managing director Gareth Robinson said: "Demand in certain locations has exceeded supply this year. A number of car hire suppliers have held their stock levels because of the economic climate, but with many people still travelling some are being caught out."

Hi all,

Just to let you know, that we just booked our car rentals and we didn't have a creditcard. Booked it threw "GOLD CAR RENTALS" spoke to them, and they said that in the terms & conditions it does say only creditcards but you must ring them up to clear it first and also you don't need to pay a deposit!!!!!!!!!! Well that sounds good, let's hope all goes well...cross fingers + toes!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone has used them laterly please leave message, and let me know!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Just out of curiosity I checked Europcar car hire price on Easyjet web site. There must be something wrong. Its coming back with a price of £449 for one week Malaga airport end of July. And thats for a Kia Pickanto?

Car hire prices have gone through the roof this summer. Cars are in short supply too. It appears
that the car hire companies have reduced their fleets because of the recession. I looked at a
Renault Clio for one week in May this year. It came back at £178 against £55 for the one I hired
for one week in May 2008.

Hi

Wondered whether anyone would be able to help me out on this one please.

My friend is flying out to CDS a week on Tuesday for two weeks and has been let down on her car hire. :(

Can anyone recommend a reliable/reasobably priced company whom they can hire a car from?

Many thanks

Does she want to hire from airport? I have used Record many times from Malaga airport. There are other hire companies there. Europcar ,Hertz, Avis,Crown. There is not much difference in hire costs between them.Holiday Autos are competitive but you have to pay up front.
If she wants to hire at resort there are many to choose from.At a guess 30 euros a day for 1 days hire, getting cheaper the more days you hire for.
Maybe Aguilamike can give a better idea of local prices.

We recently reported a shortage of hired cars in parts of Spain and the Algarve, due to rental suppliers being unable to increase fleet stock levels as a result of the current economic climate.

This has since been borne out by members finding it difficult or impossible to rent cars at their holiday destinations.

However, we now know of at least two members who had successfully reserved cars with Auriga Crown in Majorca and Valencia, but have now received emails informing them at very short notice that their bookings have been cancelled due to the non-availability of vehicles. No alternative options were made available to them and it seems the only option may be public transport.

We are not suggesting that any or all bookings with Auriga Crown are at risk but anyone holding reservations with that company, either directly or through a car hire broker, may like to keep an eye on their email inboxes or spam folders for any unexpected or unwanted news.

You will be lucky to get a car in Malaga at the minute unless you want to pay a fortune due to the car shortages. You probably will be better with a taxi.

has anyone booked car hire direct with centauro (not through a broker)? just wondering if there is any insurance excess, i have emailed them but dont think they quite understand my question. thanks

Hi Bearman ... the Centauro General Conditions of Hire appear to suggest that there is no excess, except in Ibiza and only on certain groups of car there.

Got back from Malaga on Saturday after 2 fantastic weeks in the sun...

Rented a car from "GOLD CAR HIRE".
No deposit was needed, and i did'nt have a credit card either. We did'nt get the car we wanted, they gave us a Vauxhall combo and what a crappy car it is...lol. It cost us about 600 euro's for 2 weeks, with extras included.

The best thing about GOLD CAR HIRE is you don't need a credit card, your debit card is ok!!!!! :ghug

11 people, 7 suitcases - how many cars do we hire?

We've booked a villa in Marbella, it's quite remote so we need cars while we're there.
1 people carrier and 1 focus would be fine for us BUT we don't think we'll fit our 7 suitcases in for the transfer.
Car Hire places don't seem to do roof racks which would solve our problem.

We don't really want to have to pay for an extra car just to transfer suitcases.

Any ideas/suggestions/experiences please?

We can't be the only family having this dilemma.

A focus estate (a ranchero as they are called in Spain) should carry at least 4 cases, possibly 5.and 2 in the people carrier.
