Hi ,i have always fancied going to France for a summer holiday,is it expensive to rent a static out in july/august, are these type of holidays boring or are the camp sites lively?I live in the north east, whats the travelling like is it tiresome and hard or is it pretty straightforward?Knowing my luck i would miss the ferry and get lost.I have noticed Vendee is on the coast and now too far down in France would this be a good place to visit for a fortnight in 2007 ? There will be my wife and i and three children ages 15,11,7.
Thanks for any info.
check out the firms like Matthews Redbreast and (wash my mouth out) Eurocamp

This year we were in Brittany and had a 550 mile drive with a 5 year old and a 2 year old and as our ferry doesn't get to Zeebrugge till noon we split the journey over 2 days. The Vendee isn't that much further and I wouldn't have a problem driving there from Zeebrugge. The AA website gives travelling directions and times which are usually very accurate so play around on there if you're worried about times and distances.
The site we were on at Carnac had Eurocamp, Canvas Holidays, Keycamp, Matthews and French Freedom Holidays on it and all the companies tend to give their sites a classification to help you decide which are appropriate for you. On the way back to Zeebrugge we stayed 3 nights on a site which had no facilities (pool, shop, bar, etc) so was designated as a quiet relaxing site but as we were using it as a base to take the kids to Disney it didn't bother us.
I know Eurocamp, Keycamp and Canvas are all giving big discounts now for 2007 holidays if you book early (we saved 30% off last year's prices by booking this year's holiday last October).
cheers elaine80+madcaravanner for the replies, what is wrong with Eurocamp madcaravanner?
the reps are drunken rowdy idiots they show now respect to campers still there etc.
on one campsite they got evicted for their bad behaviour
that's wrong with Eurocamp in MY eyes
Personally we've never had a problem with antisocial Eurocamp reps despite having been on 10 sites over the last 5 years. In fact, one of the sites we were on this year had reps who were a retired couple over for the summer in their own tourer caravan.

To me that sounds more family orientated and if we met sucha set I would probably have a much different opinion of them personally used to like Eurosites for their policy of mixed age group of reps not all spotty teenagers like we have experienced in the past
Also sounds like a job we could do in a couple of years when I retire
