Awful lot of hotels just opened up in Cardiff these days. The Park Plaza Marriott, and the Hilton are about as Central as you can get. Theres the newly opened Royal on St.Mary St..streets a bit lively at weekends though.

The St. Davids Hotel is located in Cardiff Bay area, great views but a bit to minimalist for me.

I would stay away from the City Centre if I were you, not a nice place to be on a Saturday night (I live in a village 4 miles away), if I were you I would stay down the Bay, there is an Express by Holiday Inn down there and also a Future Inn and some very trendy restaurants and the environment is a lot safer at night.
