Hi, I maybe too late for advice re booking for Castell Montgri, but I have just come across your questions. We went here in '07 with 2 of our brood (ages 13 & 15) and loved it. Steel clear of the upper take away - many people were ill after buying from it. The lower one was great for burgers etc at lunchtime. As far as company to book with we went with g04spain and they were so good we are booking with them again this year. Their units are on better sites and are far cleaner that other companies. Just ask for a placement no higher that the big, sorry huge, pool as water pressure higher up is dubious to say the least with showers sometimes not possible until after everyone else has finished!!!!!

Also, booking with go4spain, gives you great personal service with all bedding and the absolute must have gas barbie included. Jane and Hellen are very welcomiong at their sister property in town (I forget what it is called) You will be told all about it and they do a BBQ night with entertainment once a week and when you go along and introduce yourself you are welcomed like an old friend. Another bonus is, if you don't have a car, just ask one of the reps nicely and they will pick you up from Lidl - just outside the gate but a long walk in the sun with ice-cream for the freezer!! We hired a car to get to places like Roses and Empuriabrava (a mini venice and well worth a visit) but it is entirely a personal choice.

The town is within walking distance as it is all on the level but it is a very hot walk during the day.

The biggest bonus of booking thru g04spain is, if you do your homework as have, their prices are very competative.

We,re going begining July for 2 weeks, hopefully it will be as good as last time. Happy holidays. :sun2

I was really thinking of going back to CM this year, but the season starts even later on the 16th May. We have 2 young kids and unfortunately, the site is much busier than we like in the holidays. As it opens a week later one of the weeks would be in the holidays. I do not know why it has to open so late, there are sites further north than this one in France that are open in April. It cant be the weather because it is fine in early May.

So looks like we will be heading to Sanguli again, was there for 2 weeks in April 2008 and the weather was glorious.

To be honest we have been twice during the opening week. Second time we went incorporated the Whit holiday cos we went for three week and it was fine. We travel with an infant on both occasions and found it was not over full and we got seating fine. You have to take into account the weather phenominon that is the mistrals. It can be very windy late may and the beach is like a sand storm but the air is refreshing on camp. Found that the first week in june the type of families changed and there were alot of disabled groups. Unfortunately the reasonably priced holidays seemed to also attract alot of Chavs and it spoilt our last few nights with the whole atmosphere changing and for some reason lots of louts wishing to fight the waiting staff. Didn't go to the entertaiment for the last three nights . Gave the camp a break in '07 and rented a villa just opposite site but miss the evening ents hence us coming back. Hope the Chavs have move down the coast abit to more traditional loutish resorts!

^ We found that the last week of our holiday in 2006, the first week in July was full of trouble makers.

We are going on 13 June for 2 weeks so hopefully avoid some of the lager louts. I'm hoping we will as my sister & brother in law are going here for the first time.

We were there for 2 weeks in July 2008 and had no problem with the type of behaviour that you are describing.
We had a wonderful time.

Hi everyone we're heading to Castell Montgri on 30th June for 2 weeks. Our flight doesn't arrive in Girona until 21.25, just wondering if anyone else arrived on site this late? I've been in touch with Thomson Alfresco who we've booked our mobile with and they said the key will be left at reception with instructions of how to get to our mobile.

I'm quite anxious about this as its our first time staying on a campsite. Will it be pitch dark? easy to find our mobile? Would love to hear what you all think

Thanks a million

Hi, There is no problem arriving this late at Castell Montgri. The site is well lit, and the bars/entertainment are on till midnight. The Thomson Mobiles are located on the lower level of the site, only about a 300m walk from reception. You haven't mentioned how you will be arriving. Please be aware that the barrier comes down at midnight and there is no driving on site after this time.

Don't be worried, many Ryanair flights arrive at this sort of time as well, so lots of people arrive late. They will probably just give you your key and a map of the site at reception and ask you to come back the following morning to complete the formalities.

You will have a great time, this is a brilliant time to go to CM because it won't be 100% packed but the weather should be fantastic

Thanks very much for replying. I'm not sure yet but we'll more than likely be getting a minibus from the airport, there will be 2 families. I'm getting quotes at the minute.

That sounds grand I was having visions of arriving to complete darkness :yikes

I think there are also Thompson lodges at the top of the site near Cantabrica and Siesta lodges, beyond the pool/stage/football area

Try taxi alex for a minibus. He is great, punctual and reasonably priced have used him every year for 5 years. Has car seats for kids and aircon minbus with dvd players that kept my kids amused. Really lovely guy often get emails at xmas and makes a real fuss of my boys. Can't remember his email address as have changed provider and lost it but if you google taxi alex am sure you will find it. Has silver taxi with purple sign writing.

Tel no: 0034659550550

This is the only reliable taxi service in Estartit!! Store this number in your phone when you go.

I got the dates wrong we're heading off from Glasgow on 6th June for 17 days.

Cider I looked at your walk up to castle, in all the times I have been there I,ve never went up, tyhough have walked up the 300is stairs at the supermarket at the round about.

I think we might try the walk to the castle this year as the weather shouldn't be to hot.

In a way I cant wait to go but I know the site has gone down hill a little so I wont go with my hopes to high.

Hi all,

have just booked to go to Castell Montgri on June 3rd for 2 weeks. it is our first time going on a holiday like this so a bit nervous. Have a few questions that hopefully you can answer... :)

1. Who have ye booked private transfer with and how much? I am getting a quote of 144stg return. Does this sound right? Flying into Girona airport.

2. Have booked with Eurocamp, are there mobiles nice and modern or old? What part of the site are they situated?

3. Is the onsite supermarket expensive as per reports? is lidl definatley the cheaper option?

Will defo have a few more questions, so thanks in advance :cheers

I'll see if i can be of help Beckie

1) Scared of flying, wrong man to ask! :D

2) I seem to recall most of the Eurocamp mobiles being on the mid / upper level of the campsite, quite a few used to be beyond the panorama pool (top left area if you are looking at a map of the site) ... but of course i may be wrong! Most mobiles on the site are lovely, you'll enjoy them :)
3) The site supermarket is more expensive, yes, but a lot of that does depend on what you are buying. Essentials and local brand stuff isn't too bad, but you are still better using Lidl to get your bulk of stuff. If you are daft enough to go buy an imported tin of Heinz Macaroni from the site supermarket, then you ain't allowed to complain! ;) PS Anyone else going last week in May, or am i going to have the site to myself?

If anyone is going and wants to have a beer (or more likely a swig from my hip flask given the price of the euro, let me know!! :rofl )

^ Cider, I think the onsite bars are going to feel the pinch this year from us Brits, I'll be going to the supermarket for my vodka and drinking outside my lodge me thinks.

We're going on 6th June for 2 weeks, still early and hopefully still get the weather.
