I've booked the Mavruka for early September and the majority of reviews on this site and others seem very positive. The Mavruka certainly seems to be rated as one of the resorts better hotels, however your post seems to suggest otherwise. Any idea of what these bad reviews contain or where I can see them?

Hi, You are right, the majority of reviews are very positive, however there were some recent reviews on trip advisor with people complaining about

-loud music being played around the pool from the hotel bar (may not sound like much but this is something which personally would annoy me)
-also reviews saying that you have to get up mega early for a sunbed (hate this)
-music being played by hotel bar loudly till 1am
-1 review commented on the tiny balconies (not big enough for table/chairs so can't sit out on them)
-breakfast served outside with flies everywhere
-aparently this used to be a hotel favoured by turks, but now is over run by rowdy brits with unruly kids!

Each to their own though, i'm sure it'll prob be ok, but we just preferred the sound of belle vue (which incidently also has its bad points, i.e location, but like i said, what suits some wont suit everyone).

Please don't be put off your hotel by our decision to change, i hope you have a wonderfult time, i'll post a review on my return on this thread to let you know whether i think we made the right decision. We plan on going to see the mavruka while we're there. We are away from 16th to 23rd, so will post soon after this.

Hi Steve, we have stayed at the Mavruka twice and are going back 29th August for a week. We are a quiet mid 40s couple and like the clean spacious feeling of the hotel. I have never experienced it as being particularily noisy. The location also appeals as it is never far to anywhere. Admittedly this is our first trip during school holidays - our previous visits have been when kids have been in school. So that might change things a little but i cant imagine that it will be a great problem.

Lormullan, I dont know the Belle Vue but did stay at one of the hotels further up one year. There is a definite advantage in being further up in terms of ambience - the views are awe-inspiring. Getting up to breakfast and the mountains every day was a real treat.
Personally, i did find the walk a bit much in the heat which is why we now go to a hotel further into the resort - but i do feel that we lost something special by making that choice. I am sure you will have a lovely time and look forward to reading about your stay.

Well. Where do i begin?!

The belle vue- awful! We changed hotels on our first day. The walk is dangerous, i don't care what anyone says! And we are 2 fit 28-year olds! The room we were given was in the basement with no sea view (as booked), next to a noisy generator. When we asked (nicely) if we could change rooms, the receptionist became hostile towards us. It was then that we decided to look for an alternative.

So, we managed to get a room in the Marcan beach hotel- lovely. Staff very friendly, rooms lovely, pool spacious and always lots of sunbeds! 2 min walk to beach. would highly recommend this. Only downside- poor breakfast, little choices other than bread, jam, cornflakes with warm milk, and olives.

As for the mavruka, we went to see it, it looked very crouded around the pool so im glad we didn't opt for this one. Still, looked like a nice hotel though.

I will never go back to turkey, including olu deniz. I honestly did not like it, even though we ended up in a nice hotel. Olu deniz, in my opinion, not at all what i expected- it's tacky & the beach is overcrouded, shame becasue i imagine at one time it would have been stunning.
The main 'strip' is horrible, tacky shops and bars, not for me!
sorry!

What a shame you have been so put off Turkey. We haven't been to Olu Deniz but I have heard that area is very commercialised, and haven't really fancied it for that reason.
There are still loads of lovely locations, very small places like Selimye and other villages around the Bozburun peninsula. Datca and Akyaka are still very Turkish, and of course Turunc which does have more British holidaymakers than the others, but hasn't been spoilt by commercialism.

sorry to hear you will not vist this vast country again but that area you chose is a tourist area and in peak season so alot of these things will happen in hotels, still no excuse for a dingy room but if you booked at one hotel and changed this is why they will just find room for you even if it is a broom cupboard, i do hope one day you feel like exploring some of real turkey there are alot of resorts that are not so big and bussly as alfie said, don't right it off on one bad experience :sun2

i totally agree with the last 2 posts, we love akyaka, selimye and bozburun are lovely places, ive been to turunc and quite liked that but prefer akyaka but im hoping to visit datca 1 day, so dont let 1 holiday put you off, there are so many beautiful places in turkey if you know where to go. have a look in the gallery of the photos ive listed of akyaka
