Not before time but will we see any REAL changes next season?

Maybe then can stick all the beds and umbrellas onto the River Princess and have them towed away......kills two birds with one stone!!!

Can someone enlighten me as to where the beaches are that are over crowded with sunbeds ?
I noticed more than previous years, and we use the area around the River princess but can't see that it was causing any problems for people walking up and down the beach from Sinquerim to Calangute.
Ganesh shack had 20 at the most - next door at Sudhas they had 40.
The amount of beach they have is not that large, but the 40 beds were crammed together (which I don't like anyway) but still didn't spoil things.
With more tourists then surley they have to have more sunbeds to cater for them ? If shacks are causing access problems then yes they should be removed (or limited), but then again... these people are making a living so a lot of thought and compromise needs to be used.

You obviously never tried walking from Baga to Calangute!

Well, you have answered what I asked, as to which beaches (or parts of) which have a problem, so Candolim and Sinquerim are not affected. No doubt they will punish all shacks and not just those that are causing the problem.

hi bob the southman
do not be afraid that those who love action will come/go to south :-) i love calangute as it is and will definately return there. Nevertheless, i have seen the calangute beach in 1971, right after hippie event, deserted beaches and fishermen coming from sea at 6 o'clock in the morning. i must confess- beautiful and peaceful, like heaven on earth but today i take a taxi and go to morijm, aswem, manderem to find my moments of peace. i like it that way and can consider myself a north-man (btw. my wife agrees with me and likes to be called a calangute fan). for me the quantity of sunbeds was little over the edge close to the main entrance to the beach of calangute but we possibly are all walking on two legs - little further it was acceptable for us. :-)
its good to have different views and preferences - in this way we do not overcrowd the beaches :-)

hi elephant
yes i do the same as you and get a taxi to the more northern beaches.
i too love calangute as some of my previous posts will testify.
i have walked onto the beach from calangute recently, only too smell petrol fumes, oil smells and been greeted by jet skis and speed boats tearing up down just offshore.
its not just the sun beds that are a problem now. the peace and quiet, particularly in that area, is gone!!!

Have to agree with you Bob.

Even a year makes a different - we stayed at Bobby's shack, both years - last year there was a little patch of beach about 300 yards south, where the jet ski's and paraglider boats seemed to stay.

This year they were all over the place - and what i didnt like was the fact that the guys on the jet ski's came far to close to the swimmers in the sea. This is just dangerous and silly imo.

Did anyone notice that just as you were dropping off to sleep after a few beers at lunchtime that a bloody boat would come along with HUGE banners, advertising restaurants - and let off fireworks to wake you up and make you look!

I dont think its just the tourists that are making the beaches noisy!!

What does this really mean? Is it not likely that there will be just as many beds and umbrellas, but the shack owners will simply have to pay more in bribes to the police? As in previous years a small number of shacks will probably have their extra beds burned, if they have not paid, but things will not really change.

hello
<<<only too smell petrol fumes, oil smells and been greeted by jet skis and speed boats tearing up down just offshore. >>> i'm sorry to say but you are right, bob.
we did park ourselves on sunbeds that were out of the reach of the smell, little fatrher to the direction of the baga.
but the jets and boats would be the right thing to regulate, not the sunbedsm, that are not So big problem, imho.

The beaches are getting that crowded that you dont no which shack your in because they place the beds so close together. We were in the big banana and were right on the edge of bobbys shack, its ok to be close to someone your with but its not very comfortable basically lying on top of someone you dont no. :!: :x

I expect the powers that be will bring down the limit of bed numbers per shack, all this will mean is that it is an extra reason for bribes to be demanded, all up the chain from the police on the beach, through their bosses , up to the civil servants, and the politicians. As far as the packed in beds mentioned in the last post, I'm amazed when people pack in there, you dont even need to take taxis up the coast, all you need to do is walk along the beach towards Candolim from the likes of the bottom of Holiday Rd in Calangute, and you are spoiled for choice with great shacks and plenty of room between the beds, (and you'll get a better tan walking !! Well I agree with everything being said I for one was in a way was disappointed this year with the beaches and walking from Baga was horrendous with the amount of sun loungers so close and yes having to walk in the sea (haha not a prob really) We will be giving the North a miss next year and may try the South or even give Goa a miss altogether (did I just say that :yikes ) We did find the taxi drivers way over the top with prices and so many new bars and restaurants opening In a way Im sorry to say in my eyes its losing its charm and it really is getting dirty these days

ps
I know everyone doesnt think like me by the way.
