Don't think there is a ferry route from Jersey to Caen and if there is it would take almost a whole day there and back. It's not feasible to visit the W.W.beaches by that way. You would also need a car there and fare would be high.
We stayed at Camping de la Vallee 5 years ago and there was some entertainment etc on site. We don't bother with the entertainment so I can't help with what it was like. Alternatively, look at Chateau des Ormes at Dol de Bretagne. It's under 2 hours from Caen and has loads happening.
these are campsites listed in my normandy book that might be of some help but they will be scattered across normandy so you would need to check how far from DDay sites or how about renting a gite .you can get them quite cheaply. We ended up staying b+b in bayeux but i found the normandy tourist board site very useful with links to gite websites. or try http://www.gitesdefrance.com a very good site that also appears to list campsites

I'd vouch for the site in St Aubin, la cote de nacre.
I just edited that one out Mary . It looked good but a long way from the DD beach .looked like it was near dieppe somewhere that would probably be a 3 hour drive
St Aubin is right on the beaches, very close to all, you actually drive through it on the coast road.

http://www.camping-cote-de-nacre.com . Yes my map for some reason is showing 2 st-aubin-sur-mer,s another one near Dieppe which is where they have put the campsite on the map ref in my book . Yes it does look in a good spot right inbetween sword and juno beaches . maybe an hours drive for omaha/Utah .
great prices for one of their mobile homes even .just had a look for a few days over may half term . 165 euros . bargain

WOW thanks everyone it wil give me something to think about now. we were hoping to get a super tent somewhere so we wil see.
By staying there, you would be within a 20min max drive to any of the sights, plus Bayaux.
It really is a worthwhile trip Cooper . one that will live with my family and I forever . not sure if you read my post when i returned but here is a link to it. if you have any questions just ask
thanks to everyone for all of there help, but we have decided to go to holywell bay in cornwall for next year and hopefully book up early enough to go to chateau des ormes in 09.
We had a good holiday at Chateau Des Ormes this year, spoiled only by the weather. Would recommend it as a site. The family in the next caravan go there every year.

Just to throw a fly in your ointment
Why Book???
IF you travel in low seasons for most campsites you can just turn up
We travel in April / May and August /September and have not booked a site yet
You don't mention how many of you are traveling or what you are camping with (your own tent/Caravan) but if there is only 2 of you suggest you browse the Camping Cheques website. They do have quite a few sites around the D Day beaches
