haven been to alberfura for a few years, never did find what i consider to be proper piri, most places served a char grill chicken and a sauce either poured over or in a dish, i much prefer mine marinated for 24 hrs before cooking

Hi Sweet, there is a nice Piri Piri restaurant at the top end of The Strip (Montechoro) end called "Manuel Dos Frangos". Another one on Estrada St Eulalia near to Oura Praia Hotel, I thinks its called "Ageipto" is also nice, its next to Annabells restaurant. Both these restaurants serve the proper Piri Piri dish, marinated chicken & not the sauce which you pour over separately.
If you are ever there when the market is on at Albufeira try the food caravans situated in the middle of the market for lunch they serve excellent Piri Piri but served on paper plates, very basic but its tasty & cheap. Albufeira market is on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month. There is also a market at Quarteira every Wednesday situated near the bus station with the same Piri Piri guy but hes situated at the top end of the market. Cheers Jayjan

I go to Guia for mine...but as I stay in the Vale de Parra area its the nearest place with any number of restaurants. If you've got transport its worth a visit.

Guia is nice but i find they are more expensive because its the area famous for Piri Piri, (sayin expensive haha, cheap compared to UK )but you can find restaurants on a par with guia elsewhere, but maybe not the same atmosphere. Cheers Jayjan

I stayed in a villa a few years ago in Guia and the piri piri was brill. I found it very cheap and the restaurants in Guia have a different/better atmosphere than a lot of other locations we felt. Try the palladium or la mangerie(pricey) but as Jayjan said, there are other places around that do a good piri piri also. We ate in these restaurants as we were only a vfew mins walk away. The only thing I would say is not to get it in a touristy place as it does tend to be chargrilled.

In the palladium it was chicken breast and was oven cooked in a sauce.

See ya

I agree guia is the best place for this national dish, go to the local portuguese restaurants they have the best taste and prices 5 euros per person, try 'o grade and 'o aurelio.go in august and look out for 'festivo de frango' this is located at guia football club training ground in the town centre, approximately 100 chefs ply their trade here and for a nominal entry fee you can eat as much as you like :D
better still why not make your own piri piri it is much more fun, most recipes are a closely garded secret but I will share mine with you
from the market buy some "malaguettas" these are small fiery red chillies
or you can buy them in packet form already dried.
from fresh dry them in the sun, then grind them until crushed add them to bottle of the best virgin olive oil ,add portuguese paprika and last a slurp or two of decent port. shake and allow to to ferment for about a week then it is ready to use , excellent in soups or stews as well as a meat marinade.if you like it really hot just use more of the said ingedients.
bon appetit :wave
