Was wondering if anybody can help and sorry if the answer is buried somewhere (I did try to have a little search!)
We are thinking of going to Cuba in January 09. We want to do a multi-centre holiday and in the Virgin brochure they do the option of Havana for the 1st 3 days and then somewhere else for the rest of the 2 week hols. We are keen on Virgin becuase they then do the Sunday flights from Gatwick (which ties in with the time we can get off work and the 2 weeks).
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba looks potential in Havana but we don't have a clue where for the rest of the holiday?
A friend said that Varaderero is really good, (She went on her honeymoon a few years ago and stayed at the Beaches resort - This is well above what we want to pay!) would this resort be nice to go to? and which hotel? I have looked at a couple - Breezes Jibacoa looks quite chilled but it seems like its in the middle of nowhere? We do like to do walks especially after dinner etc as we are quite active but we also like to be lazy! Another girl I work with has been to Cuba a couple of times but never Varaderero.
Any ideas? We don't want anything mega expensive and this is our Honeymoon so we don't want anything too loud or intrusive (wedding is in October but we want to do the Cuba trip but not in hurricaine season and it seems great to then have a nice holiday in January when its so pants!) so we just want time together be lazy. The Havana part can be more seeing sights etc and the beach part more lazying, spending time together and doing things if we fancy but if we just want to laze then so be it!
the transers are another factor. If we are in Havana then to be the other side of the island would be pretty hard work. Varaderero seems to be an obvious choice? (and even that is 2 and a half hours drive from Havana)
