We got back on Saturday. Hubby paid 33 euro for 200 L&B - I think they were all similar prices. They were 3 or 4 euro more in the airport.

Kazzi if your hubby paid 33 euros for 200 L&B they must be old stock & you got a bargain as they have been 36 euros for approx 10 weeks now. Superkings are 38 euros not sure about anything else but they have all increased dramatically over the last 12 months

... and there's something strange about them being cheaper than in the airport, as the price of cigarettes is controlled by the government and should be exactly the same all over the country. I'd be very dubious about the cheapies if I were you!!

We didn't buy any when we were there in May as the Lamberts were €36.50 everywhere and with the exchange rate being €1.20/£1.00 it just wasn't worth it as we'd not have been able to shift them for more than £30.00 a carton.

Hi Dawn,

We got back on Monday. JPS black were 33 euros (£28 approximately). Nearly had a heart attack as we were there 2 years ago and they were only 28 euros but probably because of the euro exchange they now seem an awful lot dearer. By the way they were 33 euros everywhere including the airport.

Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of how much tobacco is?

Also, what's the no-smoking situation like in Portugal now?

Cheers

Hi Roswell,

You can smoke in the outside areas of the restaurants. Some restaurants allow separate areas inside. Hubby bought 500g of Drum (10 x 50g) and the cost was 46.50 euros.

Drum was the cheapest we saw at €46.50, others were over €50.

Thanks everyone - that'll give me an idea on how much to budget!! Sounds like prices have increased quite a lot.

My hubby has been smoking L&B lights for 20 odd years - they are the real thing. He bought a pack every night from the same shop and they were 3.5 euros for 20, and they gave him a discount for buying 200. This was in praia da rocha, last week.

And he was allowed to smoke in most of the pubs - much to my disappointment.

Does anyone know the current price of Golden Virginia 50g packs in Portugal? I go out next week

Thanks

I have read on some other threads that the price has been dropped from 45 euro to 35 for 10 x 50g? Is this true?

Thanks

Last time I bought some 12 months ago they were 55euros for a 10 packets @ 50grms per pack so I should imagine they are dearer now as all tobacco prices have increased substantially.

Golden Virgina was €54.50 and DRUM was €46.50.

those prices are crazy especially when i paid 25 euros for 10x50grms of Cutters Choice in Menorca last week , GV was 37.50 euros) Portugal ripping us off ?

We recently travelled from Algarve into Spain to buy our ciggies. We saved €6 a carton on cigs and a massive €23.50 per pack of 10 Amber leaf.

The reason tobacco and cigs are dearer in Portugal is because the Vat is more, but they have just dropped it by 1% to 20%, I believe Spains Vat is only 19% or less.
