thought the programme was a bit unfair. lots of "could cause" and "maybe's", no actual reports of illness etc that could be applied to the hotel (apart from the boys cut foot)
we all know that the hotels get little of the amount we pay to tour op's and as long as we keep looking for the cheapest deal then this is what we will get.

Whilst i agree to the "could cause and maybe,s " it still did not excuse the lack of cleaning in the rooms or the underheated and re-cycled food, several guests talked to the hidden camera about having tummy troubles etc. and i know people will say that it always happens that " holiday tummy " is due to the change in water, food and the heat etc. but we are carefull what we eat and do not suffer!

maybe if I had been able to watch a non-edited report I would have been convinced.
But these programmes are built up to find faults and I would imagine the editing reflects this agenda.
I think if I had been told what the customers paid for "4 star AI" it would have been a bit fairer, also if the programme makers had paid for the secret family to go it is very unlikely that they would show any part of the hotel in a good light.(no idea wether or not that was the case).
While I wasn't impressed by the hotel it didn't strike me as a vastly different to most of those I have stayed in.

I remember talking to a food hygenist that I met at a party a few years ago who claimed that most peoples own kitchens were worse than the majority of poor restaurants.

i priced up the armar for may next year it was only 43 pound a week all inclusive i dont know what you would expect for that.

I missed this program but we have stayed at the Armar with my two twin grand daughters aged 2 yrs at the time

We found it nice no problems at all yes we stayed in better hotels since but you get what you pay for

We found food was edible and always hot and always something we liked you would never starve

Drinks were okay to

Room was fantastic we had a suite with jacussi in it never paid extra for this but it was beautiful :cheers

Rooms were always cleaned to a high standard hotel itself was clean :sun2

if every one was ill there ther would be a huge out cry and the national newspapers would be involved, as this has not happened i would asume most who go there are fine.

One can only presume that there have been a lot of complaints otherwise they would not have chosen that hotel to make a program about. :yikes

fair point,Alan....but a bit suspect that they didn't make any claim about that don't you think?

edited. just had a look on the hotel reviews and I don't think that I have ever seen such varied reports!
goes from heaven to hell and back in alternate reviews.

Del949, i was watching the program whilst doing something else so i cannot swear this is true but i am sure i heard the presenter say that following a lot of complaints about the hotel they were sending in the undercover family and hygene expert also what if they had picked any hotel just to make a program and the hotel took them to court or at least the advertising standards, i am sure the BBC had enough genuine complaints to back up any litagation following the programs airing.

Alan, maybe you're correct, I didn't hear any ref to previous complaints but to be honest I wasn't listening closely at that point.

As the programme is apparently a spin off from watchdog its only fair to guess that there was only one agenda in the early format of the programme. They would be very unlikely to go to the trouble and expense of making the programme and then concluding there wasn't any problem.
I still believe that this hotel is probably no better or worse than the vast majority of other hotels in the same price range.
I feel that the managers of these hotels are really between a rock and a hard place, the amount paid by the holiday companies for a two week AI package leaves little to be spared for anything over the rock bottom basics and sadly in those circumstances cleaning and hygeine are one of the first items to come in for savings. This is only based on chats that i have had at various times with hotel managers and obviousley they will claim that lack of money from the operators is the cause of lack of facilities etc.

However, Alan, two things we can agree on............ neither of us is likely to be staying there :) and the programme and consequent bad publicity can only improve things. :)
