We walked through the grounds recently (which you have to do if you walk down CSM road to the beach) and it looked extremely nice - also looked expensive though?
Reply
Agreed it is slightly more expensive than the Marinha Dourada but not that much. The grounds look great as I parked my scooter by the roundabout at the bottom of the road before heading off to the Big Banana when I was there last year. :tup

I think the central location outways the higher price.

And with TC, the flight times are better than others but still not brilliant......

......still who cares once you're there!! :sun2 :tongue :cheers ;)

Hi Ian,i know you are asking for opinions of people that have stayed at the c.s.m recently, but we stayed there a couple of years ago,and moved out to the M.D.the room we had was awfull, they showed us a couple more that were just as bad and when our rep came to see our room she walked in and said,"oh my god this is dire" and moved us to the M.D i.m.o. the two can`t be compared.

Hi Ian we also have stayed at the Marinha Dourada the last two seasons but this year we took a chance and booked the new hotel called the Nazri in Baga which is opposite East Meets West. We were really happy with this hotel as we did not have to keep getting cabs which became a pain in the end at the MD. It may be worth having a look at it if you can get it for a good price.

Agree 100% with Goadreamer here... We had a sneaky look at The Nizri, and although we didn't see the rooms, the grounds, Reception, and pool area were first rate.

Hi Ian, we have always stayed at the MD but last year had a look at a couple of newer hotels while we were there. We had a look around the Nazri and were really impressed, the rooms, the pool, the restaurant, dining room ect.Another advantage was (as Goadreamer) pointed out was the location, you can save yourself a small fortune on taxi's. We know people who stay at the CSM and they stay mainly for its location and they hardly ever have a drink at the bar, also a lot of the buildings on the way to the beach on the CSM road are privately owned and nothing to do with the CSM....Keith
P.S
thanks for forwarding the photos........ :cheers

If you do stay there, don't use the hotel bar use the Phoenix Bar which is also in the grounds it used to be called Capt Lobo's great food reasonable drinks nice English owners and some good entertainment, they also have there own pools in the bar.

Thanks for responses people. Just looked back at the Thomas Cook website and the price for the CSM has gone up £80 since I last looked last week!!!! :que

So at this moment in time....the Nazri is around £60 cheaper than the CSM. One problem I have is that the flights. I can only fly out on a Sunday due to work and holidays unless I can bribe my manager!

Why is booking a holiday so complicated?? I'll need a holiday after sorting it all out :rofl (I am off to Turkey in two weeks time, so I should try to get it all sorted by then)
Reply
Iain it is a pity your manager is not Indian you would have no problem bribing him :rofl :rofl :rofl good luck i hope you get it sorted and have a nice holiday in Turkey.

I think you'll be pleased with the Nizri - don't forget to let us know!

Ian, we stayed at the Nazri in January and rate it highly. Great location, lovely pool area and the standard of accommodation was excellent.
We also ate at the Phoenix in CSM road (on Mikes recommendation) and can confirm that the food was suberb - so much so that we went back three times. the English couple who run it were really friendly and spent quite some time chatting to us.
We are staying in Candolim next year for a change but wouldn't heistate to recommend the Nazri - I'll be happy to answer any questions :)

Iain did you get the Nazri as a package deal or did you book flight and hotel separately.
I cant find any package deals for the Nazri :think

Gemma, The Nazri is in the cosmos brochure, but it does mean flying Monarch!! :) Paula

Yep Milliemeg is right.....I have booked it with Cosmos. However I know everyone says bad things about Monarch but when I flew with them, they were fine. No problems, no issues and as I'm vertically challenged the leg room was ok.

Best of all.....they do get you there! :fly
I note that many of the outward flights have changed to Tues or Sunday and neither of those days are any good for us. Cosmos was the only one that flew out on a Friday. :tup

I agree with iaintwoeyes,We were bumped to Monarch this year,we were due to go with Thomas Cook.On the whole they were OK,we had said we would pay extra NOT to fly Monarch, but it was a good flight, food Ok and flights were on time both ways.We have booked with Jewel in the Crown for January 2011 and that is flying with Monarch, but we are not dreading it,the price was good and flight days suited us ....So roll on January and some sunshine. :cheers Paula
