I was thinking the same myself.A lot of us who stay here in Goa long term, know exactly what goes on.So do people want to hear the truth or not.

people should be updated with what is going on, good or bad.

It was probably deleted because someone posted what they thought was an amusing attack on the Goa police investigation. Someones death isn't a reason to have a joke! Some family is now having to come to terms with the death of a loved one. Is that funny??

Ok so delete the post, not the whole thread. :que
I only really post anything that i think might be of interest when i read the morning papers...unfortunatly theres not to much good news in there to post of late!

Squigs you have hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately, there was too much inappropriate speculation in the topic, and the whole circumstances of the man's death were turned into a sick and offensive joke, which we felt could be deeply upsetting to any friends or relatives of the man who might be browsing the web, for some accurate and informative news about his death.

For everyones information. We do NOT remove posts willy nilly. A lot of thought goes into what we will allow to remain in situ. Although this topic was not particulary detrimental to the HT site it would have been completely insensitive for the persons family.

Spaldy! What about posting the weather reports, now that would be good news!! Much better than the weather we are getting here in the UK and would give all of us coming out to Goa, something to look forward to. :sun2

Once again the HT police strike again. There was nothing stated that was offensive to either the deceased or any friend or relative, but merely sarcasm towards the wonderful Goan Police.

Posts are removed, although emails are received relating to the post, if you remove a thread why not say why and mark it as closed.

Freedom of speech - not so on HT.......BYE. :duh :duh

I think Kath from admin did explain exactly why it was removed,

The post was removed for the team to peruse and make a decision on whether we felt it could be left. The delay in posting came because it was waiting for admin to view. As much as we would like to, we cant be here all of the time!

Rockerender, in our opinion there were comments made that were considered upsetting to the family.

Kath (Happy to continue policing) :wink

FACT ; A 39 year old British man was found dead in his room in Colva. This is an extremely sad event in any circumstance.

FACT : The Goa police and forensics have an historically documented record of ineptitude, cover up, lies and deception. They are well known to be politicised, 'bought' and, if not so tragic, are more fair game for ridicule than the Keystone Cops.

FACT : An increasing number of foreigners have been dying in suspicious circumstances, and no convictions are obtained because culturally, in the mindset of many Goans, foreigners get what they deserve. Such mysterious unsolved deaths have been going on for decades. it is only the mass communication of the internet that has heightened people's awareness and concern.

FACT : Any Goa government who repeatedly feels the need to repeat the mantra that Goa is a safe destination is obviously on the backfoot in a PR campaign to defend the valuable tourism sector into which they have so heavily staked their bets.

FACT : Holiday Truths claims to be independant, not linked to any charter or hotel companies. It is a valuable portal and sometimes first point of access for information about places many people have never visited before. Surely, there is a responsibility to report the truth, warts and all, and let people come to their own conclusions.

FACT : There are many positives to Goa and they are exhaustively highlighted so why not allow room for a balanced view.

FACT : Deleting whole threads, not simply single posts, is extreme censorship and it only seems to happen when actual events which might be deemed by some as negative, or counter productive to tourism, are posted for a wider audience who might have little or no real knowledge of Goa.

SPECULATION : The families and/or friends of this particular deceased may read Holiday Truths and become offended.

QUESTION : How many funerals and cremations (in haste) of good foreigner friends have you attended over the years who clearly died or 'were allowed to die' under highly suspicious circumstances?

QUESTION : By the time booze and food catch up with European prices, and, as we know, the sun reliably shines elsewhere without monsoon, how charming will the concrete desolation of Goa be for all you 'counting the days till Goa' folk?

FACT : The beaches belong to the people of Goa and historically the sea is their latrine. It is not the birthright of seasonal holidaymakers to blot and further pollute their landscape, erode their culture and assume they do not see you for what you are and what they can take from you; 'gora'.

So, what can you post on HT, or is this going to be deleted also?

Why do you remain in Goa when you are so unhappy with what you see ?

Well said Moksha

I think we will all be deleted, no one may critical of the HT police, and after many hundreds of posts and years on this site , I think it is time to move on to a more liberal thinking site where people may offer opinions without censorship.
Over the years I have seen so many people annoyed by the attitude of the administrators which do not reflect what is happening in the world, never mind Goa. They are more concerned with legal action in the internet world where really anything goes, look around you,its all over, not that I agree with everything, but you administrators are living in 1960's England with old fashioned morals and ideas.

Move on ,come into the real world of the internet and get a new lfe. This is written by a member who has just got his bus pass.

We can debate this until we are all blue in the face.

Fact is, we are not in the league of most holiday discussion sites, that are are owned by major Tour Operators and are financially secure, and therefore able to employ teams of legal representatives to fight any libel cases brought against them.

We are aware that some members of HT (both past and present) involved in this debate are also members of another website where HT is being detrimentally discussed. HT would like it known that we have no quibble with the site and no interest in becoming embroiled in any such contentious disputes.

As we are primarily a holiday discussion site and not an ex-pats site, we try to follow advice given by the Foreign Office and can confirm we have no affiliation with any tour operators or tourist offices.

To follow on, with regards to us not making our members aware of any particular problems in Goa, then taken at face value, all countries all over the world have their problems including the UK, we cannot possibly report on them all.

Please feel free to continue the debate elsewhere on the net.

Moksha,

Well said, although this is not what would be tourists to Goa want to read. Unfortunately I can't imagine anything will change in the near future regarding security. I wish the State would look after the security interests of their tourists a lot more.

Also as it turns out the friend of the deceased man who died in Colva maybe involved in a criminal case in the UK and Lancashire police are on their way to Goa to pick him up!! :think
