We are just back from Benidorm and we stayed in the Castilla overlooking the site you refer to.
We didn't find any disturbance and in fact my husband enjoyed watching the work progressing as we passed. We were told that it is to be a Cultural Centre (whatever that means)and will be only two stories high.
It does seem a shame that they have taken up a football field to make way for this. My husband used to watch the boys football from our balcony.

I took the photo's because I "love" tall buildings and seeing the progress, so Benidorm is the best place to take any pictures...and also the projects next to a couple of hotels that cause concern for members.....
A recent photo may help members decide when planning/booking a hotel near the construction.
I'll start with the Hotel Rio Park and opposite one side of the hotel, two residential towers are being constructed called Torres D'Oboe.
In the first picture you can see the hotel Rio Park on the left and the torres are just about to be "topped", then the fitting inside will take place.

These are "topped" and near completion, the windows are in and all the cranes dismantled and gone.
On the first picture on the right side of the picture, one side of the hotel Rosamar is just in shot....these Torres look smart, if I win this Saturday's lottery, I know where I'd be living.

Muy bien, Gracias Sanji.
Well, what can I say about this, except it is supposed to be a magnificent 40 floor building with the first 12 floors as a hotel.
Supposed to be completed for 2010.....never in a million years !
Had problems with flooding in the foundations......I just managed to get these photo's by sticking the lens of the camera through a small tear in the netting/fence....if this project does take off, the noise will not be done with opposite the Hotel Ocas for years.

You can if you want. Some of our readers may like to know how to say it.
I can't see anyone being affected by these two towers being built, except if you stay in nearby hotels such as the Lido or the Benikaktus or an apartment, then you'll have the trucks going up and down the road outside. (Calle Hamburgo)
TBH, I'm suprised that they are being built, anybody on the beach in the Rincon area last season would have heard the pile driver in the distance echoing around the area all day long, and then it seemed to stop with no further progress being made.
Apparently, there has been quite a few objections, the main one from the residents of the apartment blocks behind the construction, whose fantastic view will no longer be.
I did read that the builder had encroached on land that is classed as "Maritime land" and several eco-friendly groups raise objections.
Benidorm "council" tried to buy the land back from the builder and promised to conserve the area and build a park.....several court hearings later, it looks like they have lost the case and the towers are flying upwards.
Just a tad to near the sea for my liking, but this is what they will look like when finished, if you fancy buying one.

As always I have enjoyed looking at your Benidorm Consruction site photos.
Did you get to see what progress has been made on the "Residential In Tempo" construction or the "Torre Lugano"?
The views from the Gemelos 28 must be superb.
Regards Sue
did you go anywhere near the Levante Club Apartments? Do you know if there is any building work around that area please? Thanks.
Did you go in the Cala Finestrat area as we're wondering if they've done any more work on the big hotel overlooking the sea which they started years ago. They said they must take the top floors down but we haven't heard anything about it lately.
Jean
I know that you haven't been back to Benidorm for a while because you have been seriously ill.
Torre Lugano is completed...43 floors, 518 feet high and the highest residential building in Spain.
Residential In Tempo.? No I didn't get down there, but I have read that the work is suspended or "on hold", others say work is suspended until the two towers are equal ( as you know it is going to be two towers joined at the top)
Others say the slow rate of progress is because of the low take-up of sales and problems with financing, indicating the slow progress will "out run" the present global recession.
Here are some latest photo's dated from last November and December, it doesn't look like a hive of activity is going on.

Hi Sanji,

Hi Shirley
Didn't go as far up the road where the Levante Club Apartments are situated, sorry, but I don't think there is anything being built up there.

Sorry Jean, didn't go down there on this visit.
I guess you are talking about the fiasco concerning the Atrium Beach.?

Thanks for your reply Sanji. We're really looking forward now. Counting down the days
Thank you for your reply Sanji.
Yes Sanji that's the hotel I was referring to. We may have a look at it in April although I don't suppose they've done any more since last year.
I saw all these building sites when I was there in Dec08.The biggest project will be all the blocks going up on the new urban plan they've had inplace for about 7yrs where the outdoor market is.The Market will still be on but with limited space but this is going to be going on for years and years.I do think some of the older buildings look like they need pulling down.Trouble is cause they can only build on a certain plot of a specific size they have to be taller to get anything back on it as a Friend of mine in real estate told me how much it costs. Some low star hotels in the old town were hoping to be declassified so they could be changed to either apartments or commercial offices but at the moment these plans are shelved.
Torre Mediterraneo opposite the Hotel Pelicanos/Ocas....now a swimming pool.
